**University Advising Assistant (Pinheiros)**:

Reports to: University Advisor
**Main Purpose**:
The prime purpose of the University Team is to appropriately advise graduating learners and their families about future options after leaving school. This is an academic position, however peak times may coincide with teaching holidays and the times will be adapted to reflect this.
It is of fundamental importance to develop thorough holistic knowledge and understanding of all learners in Years 9-12 and to have accurate insights into their socioeconomic and cultural contexts. Holistic understanding includes knowing about their academic performance and learning characteristics, their contribution and participation in wider school-life and some understanding of their life and interests outside school.The university advisory team will be asked to contribute to extracurricular activities and/or CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service).
Establishing and maintaining trusting relationships with university representatives is imperative in order to: raise awareness to the school's mission and its socio-academic history; build the school's profile; remain up to date with any changes at individual institutions and in the world of higher education as a whole. The university advisory team will travel to local, regional and international conferences and universities, while also actively inviting and hosting universities for visits and presentations at the school.
**Specific Responsibilities within the role**:
**Year 10 Students**:
- In conjunction with the PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) team, provide lessons and workshops concerning student awareness of university options
- Collaborate with the IB coordinator to advise students for their Diploma options based on academic history, personal profile, and university entry requirements
- Advise students on summer course opportunities
**Year 11 students**:
- Learn and understand each student's academic background, interests and career aspirations
- Assist students assessing their values, interests, abilities and skills and relate these to opportunities for further study
- Be available for drop-in service, where students can have short interviews about their Higher Education needs
- Conduct a systematic and comprehensive in-depth individual, face-to-face interviews to provide information, advice and guidance
- Advise students on summer course opportunities
**Year 12 students**:
- Conduct individual interviews to finalise university choices and plans
- Advise students on producing CVs, cover letters and personal statements; request draft copies and support students through the redrafting process.
**Tutors and the Year 11 and 12 pastoral team**:
- Provide workshops and resources for writing reference letters
**Universities**:
- Build and maintain strong professional relations with university admissions officers
- Invite and host university representatives for presentations and meetings with students
- Update and distribute the annual School Profile to university representatives
- Arrange, organise and publicise university fairs in school
- Organise attendance to university fairs at other local schools
**Alumni**:
- Maintain and update records of university acceptances and final destinations through BridgeU
- Invite alumni to return to school for interviews about their university experience and to assist at school
**Parents and Families**:
- Conduct group and individual meetings with parents to support understanding of higher education options based on the family's context and student profile for best-fit choices
- Educate families about the admissions processes and different testing options
**Education**:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
**Professional Knowledge (desired)**:
- Secure understanding of International Education and the IB Diploma
- Knowledge of university systems around the world and specific knowledge of the Common Application process in the USA and UCAS in the UK
