Principal Surveyor

Local Unit & Position Description:
DNV is seeking a Principal Surveyor to join our Rio de Janeiro location as part of our Business Area Maritime Region Americas.
As a Project Manager you will be a member of a highly qualified team serving the maritime and offshore construction and repairs at shipyards in South America.
Tasks may include:
- Ensure that the work or duties performed are in accordance with the Rules, Regulations, Instructions, Guidelines and quality requirements of the organization and the instructions of the line management
- Work on-site surveys during new building of different type of ships and mobile offshore units
- Work on major vessel conversions, alterations or any technical matters involving all type of ships and mobile offshore units
- Work on-site surveys at manufactures for Certification of Material and Components applied to ships and offshore units
- Work on-site surveys during dry-docking and in service
- Maintain the confidentiality of Clients' business, processes, designs, developments and documentation at all times
- To supervise the work of others, at shipyards and manufacturers, and ensure that it is carried out as above and in an efficient and economic manner
- Communicate to line management at the earliest appropriate opportunity if in receipt of information that is important to the reputation or integrity of the organization
- Exhibit customer oriented focus through promoting DNV and by acting as a technical resource for customer questions
- Support or act as Key Account Managers (KAM) and Technical Support Manager (TSM)
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering
- Previous experience of at least 10 years in the Maritime/Marine industry
- Previous experience as Surveyor at shipyard, on ships in operation and on manufactures will be an advantage
- ISM/ISPS auditor qualification will be an advantage
- Portuguese and English language speaking/writing proficiency is mandatory
- Spanish language speaking proficiency is an advantage
- Registration at Brazilian Engineering Council (CREA) is mandatory
- Strong customer service orientation
- Attitude behavior - to be positive, pro-activeand supporter clients
- Understanding client needs
- Understanding of class & statutory survey work and responsibilities
- Team player and also be able to work independently
- Physical abilities necessary to perform regular functions of the job as Working at Heights and in Confined Spaces
- Hold a driver's license
- Be available for travel, especially in Brazil, Argentina and Chile
- Availability to work outside normal working hours, if the job requires
- Be open to internal transfers (national and international)
- Good communication skills
