Senior Electrical Data Center Engineer, Data Center Colocation Regional Engineering

Overview Are you an engineer passionate about data center design and looking for a challenge to chart your own path? This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with business development, project engineers, data center operations professionals, vendors and external consultants, and other cross-functional teams to evaluate and select colocation facilities that meet our business requirements. You will demonstrate deep knowledge of data center infrastructure design, engineering and operations, telecommunications facilities, and other critical environmental infrastructure. You will work directly with internal business teams and colocation providers to identify, document, and resolve operational/design deficiencies that may affect a site's capacity or availability. You will have the opportunity to influence standards for data center products, build and improve processes, and guide the direction of our colocation data center portfolio on a global scale. Key job responsibilities Conduct on-site assessments in accordance with AWS standards for colocation datacenters, facility upgrades, and general capital ventures. Execute risk analyses and availability calculations for colocation datacenter infrastructure owned and operated by the vendor to determine fitness for use/fitness for service. Influence AWS design requirements and specifications to meet our business needs for AWS colocation products. Investigate and document root cause analysis of infrastructure and equipment failures. Work with vendors and local agencies with jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and codes. Collaborate with engineering, operations, and commissioning teams to properly test and validate the installation, operation, and performance of critical electrical/mechanical/fire suppression/controls/structural systems. Support operations, data scientists, and other business partners to determine utilization, efficiency, and performance analysis on critical systems. Travel to datacenter locations as needed – international and domestic (up to 50%). Conduct on-site assessments in accordance with AWS standards for colocation data centers and telecommunications facilities in the region. Review vendor critical infrastructure designs and perform risk analyses and availability calculations for colocation data center infrastructure owned and operated by the vendor to determine fitness for use/fitness for service for AWS cloud computing and network services. Qualifications 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities Professional Engineering or Architectural License Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
