JOB DESCRIPTION | Junior Database Administrator (South America based) — Contractual

Position Summary

The Junior Database Administrator (DBA) supports the design, maintenance, and performance of Connected Manufacturing’s databases. This entry-level role focuses on assisting with day-to-day administration tasks, monitoring systems, and troubleshooting under the guidance of senior team members. The ideal candidate has foundational SQL knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn advanced database administration practices. The Junior Database Administrator shall take ownership to research, diagnose, troubleshoot, and identify solutions to resolve MS SQL Database issues. The Database Administrator will be a part of the team that provides operational support, maintenance, and administration for internal and external customers of Connected Manufacturing.

General Accountability & Key Responsibilities

• Assist with monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing SQL Server databases and SQL Agent jobs
• Perform backups, integrity checks, and manage indexes
• Support database performance tuning and basic troubleshooting
• Help troubleshoot basic database performance issues and escalate complex problems
• Execute routine maintenance tasks such as index optimization and integrity checks
• Respond to incidents and service requests related to SQL databases
• Assist in creating and maintaining technical documentation, especially as it relates to configurations, processes and procedures
• Work with developers to ensure efficient SQL queries and structures
• Participate in deployments, updates, and database migrations
• Support data security and backup/restore practices
• Ensure data accuracy and consistency in alignment with company standards
• Collaborate with other technical teams to ensure data availability and integrity
• Other duties as assigned on a project basis

Certifications / Training

• Seabrook introduction to MES (optional)
• Designer Best Practices
• Azure or AWS Fundamentals
• SQL Server Fundamentals

Experience / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 0–2 years of experience in database support, administration, or related IT role
• Basic understanding of SQL queries and relational database concepts
• Familiarity with Windows Server environments
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Willingness to learn and grow technical expertise
• Fully remote position: must be able to work remotely full-time

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
• Exposure to Microsoft SQL Server (2016 or newer), SSMS, or Azure SQL
• Basic knowledge of backup and recovery processes
• Familiarity with cloud database platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Internship or project experience related to database administration

Skills and Abilities

• Experience in AWS RDS, ECS and Azure SQL Database, VM, Managed Instance
• SQL Database Administration (2016/2019/2022), upgrades, and migrations
• SSRS and SSIS
• Troubleshooting database performance and integrity issues
• Performance tuning and query optimization
• SQL Maintenance plans (Backups, Integrity checks, etc.)
• Index Management
• DBCC Commands, clustering, mirroring/replication, and AlwaysOn configuration
• Data Warehousing
• Experience in SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL code and design (Stored Procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints)
• Sound knowledge of Windows Server OS

Experience

• 0-2 years of experience in Database Administration, upgrades and migrations
• Strongly desired: Experience with Medical Device or Regulated Industry

Education

B.S. in Information Science, or Associates (A.A.) degree in computer science, or related field (or the equivalent experience) plus a minimum of one-year related experience.
