**Our History**:
Oxitec was formed in 2002 by Oxford University Innovation and, in 2015, was acquired by U.S.based Intrexon.
Since inception, Oxitec has pioneered work on controlling insects that spread disease and damage crops through world-class genetic engineering and the use of self-limiting gene technology. In the mid and late 2000s, Oxitec successfully deployed genetically engineered insects in select locations in the USA, Caribbean, South America, and has continued to grow these projects, expanding to new regions and countries.
In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a positive recommendation in support of Oxitec’s self-limiting mosquitoes (OX513A) for a planned pilot in response to the Zika virus outbreak. Oxitec continues to engage with communities around the world that are in need of effective, scalable solutions to combat the dangerous vectors that threaten lives and livelihoods.
Oxitec is a subsidiary of Intrexon Corporation ( NASDAQ: XON), which engineers biology to help solve some of the world’s biggest problems.

**Purpose of the Job**:
We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate, expert-level data scientist to join a dynamic project team dedicated to the successful deployment of Oxitec’s Friendly insect technology in multiple locales. With a primary focus on initiating field trials in Brazil, this is an exciting role in a fast-paced environment, working on high-impact projects with outstanding professionals around the world. Passion for contributing to the fight against vector-borne diseases and unwavering integrity are essential.
**Responsibilities**:
- Ensure the configuration of existing tools meets the requirements of Oxitec’s products.
- Assist in the development of datasets and analysis techniques to evaluate the performance of Oxitec insects in the field.
- Maintain all relevant datasets and the architecture that supports them.
- Managing, updating, and trouble-shooting ArcGIS data entry and reporting tools.
- Build data pipelines to automate data cleansing and validating with ETL/ELT.
- Set up efficient data architecture to support transactional and analytical queries.
- Build aggregated data layer for dashboarding.
- Develop professional insightful dashboard suites for Leadership as well as technical staff.
- Training technical project staff in the use of data collection and reporting tools.
- Communicating progress and results effectively with leadership, technical managers, and external stakeholders through presentations and digital and written reports.
- Mapping of project locations, including insect releases, insect traps, and other elements.
- Writing and delivering both written and digital reports.
- Assisting as needed to address Oxitec’s data requirements for other products and geographies.
**Key Qualifications and Skills**:
- Degree, professional certification, or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline
- Advanced skills and experience in ArcGIS Desktop/Pro
- Advanced skills in Python, SQL, R, and/or Arcade programing languages
- Advanced skills in Power BI, ArcGIS dashboards, Survey123, Insights
- Demonstratable familiarity with geospatial and tabular relational databases
- Sound understanding of geospatial, statistical, and cartographic principles
- Strong communication skills and fluency in English are essential
- An interest in public health and/or agriculture
- Substantial experience with data manipulati
