Laravel Engineer with MySQL Tuning Experience (Remote, LATAM) at Bluelight

Bluelight is a leading software consultancy focused on delivering high-quality applications and exceptional client service. We are expanding across the United States and Central/South America and are looking for a skilled engineer to join a fast-paced, collaborative team that values continuous learning and professional growth.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain applications using Laravel (8+), with a deep understanding of the framework’s architecture and capabilities.
  • Optimize MySQL performance, identify and resolve complex database bottlenecks, and design scalable database schemas for high-volume transactions.
  • Write, optimize, and debug complex SQL queries; analyze EXPLAIN plans; implement indexing strategies (including composite indexes); and perform query rewrites as needed.
  • Design and optimize database schemas with normalization/denormalization for scalability and data integrity.
  • Work with Eloquent ORM and Laravel Query Builder; understand how generated SQL impacts performance and optimize accordingly.
  • Contribute to complex, large-scale multi-tenant SaaS applications; implement robust security practices in backend systems (Laravel Authentication).
  • Participate in testing with Pest PHP and PHPUnit to ensure code quality and reliability.
  • Design and implement robust, scalable RESTful APIs in Laravel with a focus on performance and data efficiency.
  • Collaborate with frontend teams (ReactJS experience is a plus) to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Demonstrate extreme ownership, meet agreed estimates and processes, and align with Bluelight client goals.
  • Maintain a positive, proactive attitude and high attention to detail.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience with Laravel (8+) and strong understanding of Laravel architecture.
  • Expertise in MySQL performance optimization and resolving complex bottlenecks.
  • Hands-on experience with writing, optimizing, and debugging complex SQL queries; familiarity with EXPLAIN, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Proficiency in database schema design and normalization/denormalization for scalable systems.
  • Experience with Eloquent ORM and Laravel Query Builder; understanding of generated SQL and performance considerations.
  • Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architectures; secure backend practices.
  • Experience with Pest PHP and PHPUnit for testing.
  • Experience designing RESTful APIs in Laravel with performance focus.
  • ReactJS experience is a plus.
  • Strong ownership, client-aligned mindset, and detail-oriented approach.
