Engineering Manager, Back End (Bangkok based, relocation provided) Join Agoda as an Engineering Manager, Back End (Bangkok based, relocation provided). About Agoda Agoda is an online travel booking platform for accommodations, flights, and more. We build and deploy technology that connects travelers with a global network of hotels, flights, activities, and more. Our team is diverse and collaborative, with a culture of experimentation and ownership. The Opportunity The Engineering Manager role at Agoda is a significant and challenging leadership position. The right candidate is hands-on, technically excellent, and demonstrates strong leadership and people development skills. We seek world-class development managers to lead one or more engineering teams. What you'll get to do Be hands on — writing and reviewing code, providing expert coaching and guidance to engineers. Maintain a love of engineering and a passion for building things at scale; influence system architecture, engineering practices, and maintainability. Do full stack engineering with solid experience across infrastructure, client side, back end, performance, and data. Develop people by inspiring peers to achieve their potential and integrating A-players into the team. What you'll Need to Succeed Extremely proficient in at least one programming language (Java, Scala, C#). Strong experience in systems architecture — complex, scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems. Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility. Proficient in lower level engineering concepts (garbage collection, context switching, threading). DevOps culture — agility, leanness, automation, CI/CD. Good understanding of application security. Passionate about technology and the Internet. Experience working in a successful agile development team. Experience running engineering teams with 5+ direct reports. Ability to operate autonomously: make decisions, set KPIs, with a strong sense of ownership. Data-driven decision making. Nice to Have Proficiency in more than one programming language.
