Overview

We are seeking a Specialist Engineer to focus on the digitization of our flexible pipeline manufacturing operations. The Specialist Engineer plays a key role in the development, optimization, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes across global production sites. The role combines technical leadership, hands-on process support, and strategic development to ensure production technologies remain robust, cost-effective, and scalable. This position drives best-in-class process standards and supports knowledge transfer across departments. The ideal candidate will work with cross-functional teams to review and execute Manufacturing Execution System (MES) implementations and Industry 4.0 solutions, such as IoT-enabled equipment, data, analytics, and automation, that enhance production efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Digitization Roadmap: Work within a clear digital transformation strategy for the flexible pipeline production facility, aligning digital initiatives with business goals and manufacturing needs.
  • Leverage Past Insights: Assess current processes and review lessons learned from previous systems or digital initiatives to identify improvement opportunities and avoid past pitfalls in new implementations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and IT specialists in deploying new digital tools and processes on the factory floor.
  • Innovation & Culture Champion: Foster an innovative culture by encouraging experimentation with emerging technologies and promoting continuous learning. Champion Industry 4.0 best practices and a data-driven mindset across the organization.
  • Process Optimization: Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to integrate digital solutions that streamline workflows, reduce downtime, and enhance real-time decision-making in manufacturing operations.
  • Change Management: Act as a change agent for digital transformation, communicating the vision and value of new systems to all stakeholders. Provide training and support to staff to ensure successful adoption of new technologies and processes.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership and department heads to ensure digital strategies align with overall business objectives. Report on transformation milestones, and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to refine the digital roadmap.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure all implemented digital systems and processes comply with industry standards for safety, quality control, and cybersecurity. Establish governance for data management and maintain documentation of digital architectures and workflows.
Qualifications
  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Engineering (Electrical, Automation, Industrial) or Computer Science. This foundation ensures technical credibility and understanding of industrial processes. A strong engineering background is valuable for manufacturing and technology integration in oil and gas operations.
  • Preferred Education: Advanced degrees are advantageous. An MBA or a Master's in Engineering/Technology Management can provide strategic business insight. A Master's in Data Science or Industrial Engineering could be a plus for deeper analytics expertise.
  • Digital Transformation Projects: Proven track record of leading digital initiatives in an industrial setting, including defining roadmaps and implementing technologies such as automation systems, IoT sensor deployments, data analytics platforms, or MES on the shop floor.
  • Familiarity with ERP and MES integration, manufacturing data platforms, and industrial cybersecurity standards.
  • Competence in data-driven decision-making using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytics platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
Soft Skills
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to align digital initiatives with business objectives and prioritize projects to maximize value.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills across engineering, operations, IT, HSE, finance, and external partners.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to convey complex technical concepts in business-friendly terms and to conduct training for shop-floor staff.
  • Change Management: Experience driving cultural change and overcoming resistance in digital transformations.

In summary, the ideal Specialist Engineer for flexible pipes manufacturing in oil & gas combines strong technical knowledge (IoT, automation, data systems) with change management. The role requires a robust engineering/manufacturing background, a track record in driving digital projects, and leadership to guide teams through significant change. As digital technologies such as cloud, IoT, analytics, and AI become more integrated across operations, this role serves as the catalyst to harness those tools for improved efficiency, safety, and business value in the flexible manufacturing process.
