Overview

I'm looking for a video editor who specializes in long-form content. This would be a full-time position to edit videos for a YouTube channel that specializes in educational content (think TierZoo). We need someone who is proficient in editing, able to do simple to moderately complex graphics / animations, and able to adapt their style to match our video’s style.

It is crucial that you have a strong grasp of the English language, as our videos are primarily about paleontology. Being able to understand scientific terminology and doing some research is a must. If paleontology and science in general are personal interests of yours, then this role will be perfect for you.

The process of the job is that we provide you with a script and audio that matches the script, and then it will be your role to find supporting images, videos, and create short motion graphics when applicable. The videos and images will be sourced from studies, documentaries, Wikipedia / Wikimedia, art websites (DeviantArt, ArtStation, etc.), and studies, so being able to Google proficiently is very important. Our video upload schedule is around 1 long-form video a week (between 20–30 minutes in length).

Responsibilities
  • Edit long-form videos for a YouTube channel focused on educational content.
  • Incorporate simple to moderately complex graphics and 2D animations and adapt style to match the video’s feel.
  • Work from provided scripts and audio, source supporting images and video, and create short motion graphics when applicable.
  • Research and select visuals from studies, documentaries, Wikipedia / Wikimedia, art websites (DeviantArt, ArtStation, etc.), and related sources.
  • Maintain a regular upload cadence (about 1 long-form video per week, 20–30 minutes each).
Qualifications
  • Experienced video editor (experience with motion graphics and simple 2D animations).
  • Highly proficient in English.
  • Proficient in research.
  • Fast and diligent learner, willing to understand scientific concepts to add value to the video.
  • Organized and punctual with delivery.
  • Able to learn from feedback and implement changes.
  • Not afraid to ask questions.
  • Comfortable using whichever professional video editing tools you prefer.

This is a position that can grow as the channel(s) grow over time, meaning that this job can evolve and change. Compensation is per minute edited, with the number depending on time and proficiency.
