Network Solution & Capability Project Design Lead
Background
Unilever has ambitious growth and sustainability objectives. In order to be able to grow and success as a business Unilever must have a robust and efficient IT Infrastructure that is ready not only to meet the challenges of today's business but also tomorrow. This is the job of Infrastructure Services. Central to this function is the role of Communication Services whose focus is to provide internal users of the Unilever network with an excellent and uninterrupted telecoms service globally enabling Unilever to win in the market.
Main purpose of job:
The Project Design Lead role provides a range of support services to the Global Network Solutions and Capability Manager.
The role involves understanding business needs to create technical solution considering the standards defined by the team and the security requirements.
The role undertakes a more senior role than a Discipline Analyst (if applicable) in a range of activities associated with the design/installation, ongoing maintenance and techno commercial validation of solutions and their potential business and technical impact on the Unilever network environment. The dual aspects of this role combine both technical and commercial responsibilities.
The role involves the delivery of solution design activity in support of the wider strategic roadmaps within the Telecoms environment within Unilever. This also entails attending project and innovation meetings, cross service line design authorities, and supplier technical forums. The role provides specialist support in ensuring solution designs deliver against the technical requirements of projects accountable to the service line, whilst also ensuring development of the solution design principles within Unilever.
Key accountabilities:
- Create/Validate project requirements to ensure it matches to Unilever Principles.
- Proactively plans and oversees complex technical activities so as to ensure that the infrastructure continues to function effectively in line with changing requirements.
- The role ensures global technical documentation is accurate and maintained.
- Manages third party supplier relationships and internal stakeholders within Unilever (particularly architecture and project delivery teams) to ensure that any network changes do not compromise the integrity, security and operational performance of existing services and technology.
- Maintains the environment through the recommendation of fixes, updated versions from suppliers, capacity management, end-of-life management and by selecting/deploying catalogued solutions to avoid operational problems and ensure the highest level of service to customers.
- Responsible for ensuring Unilever's interest in vendor negotiations and techno commercial validation of supplier proposals to achieve this.
- Responsible for defining, building and procuring tools, to allow monitoring, alerting and configuration capabilities within the run environment.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) to ensure everything has been done to determine the cause of incidents and ensure suitable workarounds and resolutions are identified.
- Responsible for analysing and creating intuitive management information reports to demonstrate and mitigate technical risk.
- Provides technical engineering support ensuring that service affecting (or service threatening) operational difficulties are resolved promptly
Experience and qualifications required:
Relevant Skills:
- Excellent technical knowledge of Networking technologies
- Hands on expertise of Cisco WAN, Cisco LAN, Aruba WiFi and Network security technologies such as the Cisco Firepower platform.
- Experience in proposing and developing network management tooling in support of business requirements.
- Techno commercial evaluation of supplier proposal documents - Commercial skills
- Capable of working both co-operatively and independently as circumstances dictate
