Transportation Specialist

Overview

TOC (Transportation Operation Center) is the central command and control center for Transportation Execution across the Amazon Supply Chain network supporting multiple geographies like NA, India and EU. It ensures timely pick-up and delivery of freight from vendors to Amazon fulfillment centers (FC) and from FCs to carrier hubs. In case of exceptions, TOC resolves issues and keeps stakeholders informed. TOC also analyzes network data to understand trends and proposes process changes to streamline operations, including automating processes where appropriate. TOC plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of Amazon transportation and delivering on-time customer service.

Purview of a Trans Ops Specialist: a Trans Ops Specialist at TOC facilitates flow of information between stakeholders (trans carriers, hubs, warehouses) and resolves issues that impact customer experience and business continuity. The role covers two verticals – Inbound and Outbound operations.

Inbound Operations focuses on Vendor/Carrier/FC relationships, ensuring freight is picked up on time and delivered to the FC as per the appointment. Outbound Operations focuses on FC/Carrier/Carrier Hub relationships, ensuring the truck leaves the FC and delivers customer orders as promised. The specialist addresses issues that may occur during the lifecycle of freight from pickup to delivery (Inbound) and from the FC to customer premises (Outbound).

The Trans Ops Specialist provides timely resolution by researching internal tools and making real-time decisions. The ideal candidate should understand requirements, analyze data to notice trends, and drive Customer Experience without compromising on time. The candidate should have a basic understanding of Logistics and communicate clearly in writing and speech. They should ideate process improvements and drive them to conclusion.

• Communication with external customers (Carriers, Vendors/Suppliers) and internal customers (Retail, Finance, Software Support, Fulfillment Centers).
• Ability to pull data from multiple databases (using Excel, Access, SQL and/or other data management systems) and perform ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
• Develop and/or understand performance metrics to drive business results.
• Ability to scope out business and functional requirements for Amazon technology teams that create and enhance the software systems used by TOC.
• Quickly understand the business impact of trends and make data-driven decisions.
• Escalate problems or data variances to relevant owners and teams and follow through on resolutions to ensure delivery.
• Work within various time constraints to meet critical business needs, while measuring and identifying activities performed.
• Excellent verbal and written communication to create narratives outlining weekly findings and variances to goals and present these findings in review forums.
• Provide real-time customer experience support by working in a 24×7 operating environment.

• Experience with Excel.
• Experience with SQL.
• Ability to pull data and perform analysis; comfort with data management systems is a plus.
