Overview

Manager, Accounting role for CHS América do Sul. The position leads accounting for Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial statements, compliance with BRGAAP, IFRS, US GAAP, and CHS policies, and addressing differences between standards.

CHS is a leading cooperative organization focused on agriculture, finance, and related services. The role is a senior accounting leadership position within the SOAM region, driving technical accounting excellence, team development, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor, develop, and lead a team of accounting professionals, fostering continuous learning and high performance.
  • Build organizational capacity within the team and initiate succession planning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including regional and global Finance, Tax, and Treasury, to ensure alignment and support talent development.
    • Oversee preparation and review of financial statements in compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, BRGAAP, and CHS policies.
    • Manage GAAP differences between USGAAP, IFRS, and BRGAAP to ensure accurate consolidation and reporting.
    • Ensure regulatory compliance across Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay with robust internal controls.
    • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
    • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures aligned to regional and global standards.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including ERP optimization and automation of accounting processes.
    • Lead the Audit Process with external auditors.
    Data & Tech
    • Collaborate with the BI team to develop and enhance financial reporting and analytics.
    • Leverage advanced reporting tools (e.g., Power BI) to provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
    • Support ERP deployments (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or JD Edwards).
    Basic Qualifications (required)
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
    • CPA (Brazil, Argentina, or Uruguay).
    • Master's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance.
    • Industry experience in Agriculture, Energy, or related sector.
    • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
    • Strong knowledge of USGAAP, IFRS, and BRGAAP; ability to reconcile and manage GAAP differences.
    • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or JD Edwards) and advanced Excel.
    • Expertise in technical accounting, including consolidations, revenue recognition, leases, and head accounting.
    • Experience managing internal controls and ensuring regulatory compliance.
    • Fluency in English with proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
    Preferred Qualifications (desired)
    • Experience with process improvement initiatives and system implementations.
    • Green Belt or Lean Silver Certification.
    • Familiarity with Power BI or other analytics tools.
    • Ability to navigate a multicultural, cross-functional environment.
    Summary Responsibilities
    • Build and maintain a strong financial controls and accounting procedures environment.
    • Partner with leaders to provide decision support enabling business objectives.
    • Monitor evolving accounting guidance and prepare reports on GAAP changes.
    • Establish and improve internal control policies, procedures, and protocol.
    • Lead month-end/year-end closing for the assigned business unit and coordinate monthly close activities.
    • Prepare financial reports and analysis for internal and external reporting needs, including SEC-related requirements.
    • Lead the forecast and budget process to ensure accuracy and timely delivery.
    • Ensure timely filings of country-specific requirements and document regulatory differences from US GAAP.
    • Prepare year-end audit work papers in line with audit requirements.
    • Champion safety culture and follow safety policies and regulations.
    • Recommend continuous system enhancements and improved reporting capabilities.
    • Provide day-to-day guidance to direct reports.
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.
    Minimum Qualifications (required)
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
    • 4+ years of experience in Finance and/or Accounting; prior leadership experience.
    Additional Qualifications
    • Proficient in MS Office suite.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.
    • Ability to build relationships and work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons.
    • Experience with Agris accounting software preferred.
    • Agriculture experience preferred.
