What You’ll Do

• Build and maintain reliable, scalable backend systems with a focus on Python, AWS, and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Design and implement APIs and batch processing jobs that serve real-world products.
• Help architect and evolve cloud infrastructure (primarily on AWS) for availability, observability, and cost-efficiency.
• Write clean, well-tested code that’s easy to understand, debug, and maintain.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including ML and product to ship high-impact features and systems.
• Automate repetitive tasks and eliminate bottlenecks with scripting and thoughtful service design.
• Support infrastructure-as-code efforts and deployment pipelines (Terraform, CDK, etc.).
• Work closely with senior engineers to make thoughtful trade-offs around performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.
• Own features from spec to production, with autonomy and support to deliver great work.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in backend engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Python for building APIs, services, or batch processing jobs.
• Solid experience with AWS services (e.g., ECS, S3, RDS, SQS, Lambda).
• Proficiency in SQL databases (Postgres).
• Experience with containerization (Docker, ECS, Kubernetes).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
• Strong grasp of software design principles, API development, and data processing in Python.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.
• Comfort owning systems end-to-end — from design to deployment to monitoring.
• Quality mindset: clean code, good documentation, and thoughtful testing.
• Clear communication, async collaboration, and proactive problem-solving.

Bonus Points

• Experience with DICOM frameworks (PyDICOM, SimpleITK, OsiriX, OHIF, Orthanc).
• Performance-sensitive or highly reliable systems experience.
• Contributions to internal tooling, observability, or deployment automation.
• Security best practices for cloud/backend services.
• Experience with sensitive data (PII/PHI) in regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance).
