Reports To Production Superintendent Background The Laboratory Technician is responsible for ensuring the product specification is correct in terms of BS &W by sampling and analysis. They have a specific responsibility for ensuring chemical stocks and rates are maintained at appropriate levels and that sample reports are communicated effectively. Authority The Laboratory Technician has authority over subordinates. Immediate Subordinates Visitors, Chemical Vendors Responsibilities & Standards Carry out routine sampling and testing/analysis operations, including careful preparation and maintaining sample integrity. Prepare for simple testing/analysis, conduct tests, and record results within appropriate documentation. Maintain safe and healthy conditions in the working environment by complying with safety procedures, following incident and emergency protocols, and limiting damage to persons or property. Ensure that laboratory and field test equipment is calibrated and maintained, including identifying calibration requirements, monitoring adherence, arranging calibration, and recording details. Control stocks of equipment, materials and chemicals required for laboratory and plant: order stocks, receive and store stock (including bunkering of chemicals), optimise usage, and issue stock to ensure adequate levels for other users. Communicate information (written and orally) accurately, concisely and promptly, processing incoming and outgoing communications, relaying oral and written messages, logs and providing information for specific purposes or tasks. Monitor and maintain pollution control measures: identify unplanned discharges, halt where possible, report according to policy, use relevant PPE, dispose waste or other materials correctly, and enforce environmental protection and pollution control effectively. Emergency response: carry out emergency response role (see Station Bill) and demonstrate competence in emergency response drills and exercises. Experience as a Lab Technician in the hydrocarbon processing industry (FPSO experience preferred). Practical experience of Permit to Work, Mechanical Standards and Risk Assessment.
