**About the Role**:
Purpose:
Deliver on a variety of complex judicial proceedings in the context of the Samarco Judicial reorganization and remediation projects. In doing so, manage and support coordination of counsel (in Brazil and overseas), and interact with other team members to assure fruitful discussions and alignment.
Support in the negotiations with public entities in general, regulators, local communities and others; developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Support judicial proceedings in a challenging environment, with the ultimate goal to improve BHP’s position in litigation, to maximize deliveries in the remediation efforts.
Dedication to the process of Samarco's operations and internal reports and processes.
Core Accountabilities
- Support and manage BHP, Samarco and Renova in legal and administrative proceedings of various matters, complexities and jurisdictions.
- Judicial Reorganization lawsuit - JR
- Samarco Civil Liabilities
- Samarco Tax Liabilities
- IRDR cases
- Samarco Legal Committee
- Samarco Tax Subcommittee
- Samarco Mining, Environmental, Labor and other matters
- Renova programs related to remediation
Complementary Accountabilities
- Support Legal Brasil in BHP Global Projects
- Provide support to Head of Legal on day-to-day legal matters relating to BHP’s presence in Brazil
- Acting as a backup for the other Legal Team members
- Legal advice in various matters
- Reports (Periodic reports, Business Plan, Annual Report, Auditors Report, etc.)
- Annual Budget (BHP and Samarco)
- Law firm/technical assistants’ management
- Reviewing and approving invoices of law firm, technical assistants, legal scholars and other service providers
**About You**:
**Qualifications**
- Lawyer graduated in Brazil
- Valid practice license by Brazilian Bar Association (OAB)
- Experience including law firms and/or working as in-house lawyer working for major national or multinational companies
- Business fluent in English and Portuguese
- Fluent in Spanish would be a plus (not mandatory)
