Position Summary

The Lift Maintenance Electrician is a full-time year-round position where the individual will be proficient in all the duties of the Lift Maintenance Mechanic and Electrician and can guide, direct, and train Lift Maintenance Assistants and entry-level Lift Mechanics/Electricians in their fundamental responsibilities. The position also requires a comprehensive working knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems and principles, low voltage control system familiarity, PLC troubleshooting, safe industrial work practices, aerial and surface lift-specific maintenance procedures, detailed maintenance inspections, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
  • Is organized with required tasks. Completes tasks promptly. Has good follow-through and habitually gets back to people on issues.
  • Safely inspect & complete the preparation of a lift for operational use.
  • Perform weekly & monthly lift inspections, advanced preventative maintenance tasks & most electrical repairs.
  • Utilizes knowledge of Electric motors to troubleshoot and ensure proper periodic maintenance on DC and AC motors of all sizes.
  • Data Collection & analysis of electric motor maintenance & PLC health.
  • Forecasting end-of-life or health of machinery & electronics.
  • Inventory Management and purchasing; including the research of components & new applicable technology.
  • Project Management & planning; including task delegation & budgeting.
  • PLC programming & understanding of ladder logic.
  • Develop & follow written procedures.
  • Troubleshoot advanced mechanical/electrical component discrepancies or failures.
  • Document repairs, labor, and materials on work orders and keep clear records of any adjustments and replacements.
  • Thorough documentation for technical reference, legal purposes, forest service inspection & insurance.
  • Begin specializing in specific lift maintenance skills such as schematic upgrades, battery maintenance, electric motor maintenance, line circuitry maintenance, drive machinery maintenance, control systems, drive functions, overall troubleshooting of circuits, etc.
  • Fabrication, modifications, and installation.
  • Assist in the electrical training and development of Lift Maintenance personnel.
  • Train entry-level Lift Maintenance personnel in the proper operation of all lifts using the main drive and auxiliary drives.
Basic Requirements
  • Flexible with hours and days of work.
  • Honest and has the highest integrity.
  • Ability to work with the Lift Maintenance Mechanics, other electricians, outside vendors, or at times alone and always in a safe manner.
  • Possess and exercise clear communication at all times.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to and in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Able to work on feet and/or in cramped spaces, and at heights for extended periods of time based on equipment installation or required repairs.
  • Must be able to work on ladders or other elevated access equipment with required PPE and fall protection.
  • Must be able to safely walk on mountainous, uneven terrain.
  • Safely operate various over-the-snow and wheeled vehicles, as well as maintain the ability to ski or snowboard to remote locations.
  • Must possess basic hand tools for electrical equipment maintenance.
  • Basic proficiency with safe operation of electrical hand and power tools.
  • The job includes regular work at heights exceeding 20 feet. Qualified individuals must be comfortable climbing vertical ladders and being harnessed. Work can be required at heights that can exceed 50 feet with variable weather conditions.
Job Scope
  • The job scope is outlined and defined by the Lift Maintenance Manager and Lift Maintenance Electrical Supervisor.
  • Is involved and responds to any issues with preoperational and operational ski lift procedures and reports to the Lift Maintenance Electrical Supervisor.
  • Works on all electrical aspects of ski lifts and assists with electrical issues mountain wide.
  • Oversee and be involved with all ski lift and department specific electrical maintenance and corrective measures.
  • To communicate all aspects of daily electrical work and future required maintenance.
Interpersonal Contacts
  • Daily interaction with other Lift Mechanics, Lift Maintenance Assistants, Lift Operators, Lift Access, Ski Patrol, and guests.
  • Occasional or varied interaction with Vehicle Mechanics, Parts Room Administrator, Grooming personnel, and Facilities Maintenance personnel.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Number of employees supervised: 1-3
  • Positions supervised: The LM Electrician is responsible for supervising all Lift Maintenance and fellow electrical personnel, in respect to their safety when it comes to electrical work and troubleshooting.
Specific Job SkillsLicenses/Certifications:
  • LME, PJ, or other NFPA Electrical Certifications are highly preferred.
  • Oregon Driver’s License.
  • 2 ILM Certificates from PNSAA or another Lift Maintenance Seminar (RMLA, LMS, etc.) preferred.
  • Climbing certification preferred.
Technical:
  • Possess working knowledge of general mechanical/electrical theories, fundamental troubleshooting, and principles, as related to hydraulics, power transmission, rotating machinery, and drives.
  • Extensive background or thorough knowledge of Electric Motors.
  • Experience and working knowledge of reading and understanding a variety of schematics.
  • Working knowledge of PLC functions and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with industry-related tasks, such as rigging and lifting, general ropeway maintenance principles and procedures, and industrial safety.
  • Possess or quickly gain knowledge of lift service and maintenance documentation, safety bulletins, drawings & parts catalogs, industry-specific codes, and requirements.
Additional:
  • Use of Clear and effective radio communications to recognize hazards, both existing and potential and to provide environmental awareness to all effected teams.
  • Ability to work in a high-alpine environment, year-round.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
Education/Related Experience

Minimum education required:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 18 years of age.
  • Two-year technical degree in Electronics or Industrial Controls preferred.

Minimum time in related position:

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of electrical experience.
  • Prior Lift Maintenance, Lift Operations, or similar Industrial Maintenance experience is required.
