Job Summary This challenging role seeks a seasoned professional to lead the development and maintenance of advanced automation solutions for nuclear operations. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar), DCS, and SCADA systems, as well as strong programming skills in ladder logic, structured text, function block diagrams, and scripting languages (Python, VBA). Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and implement complex control logic, HMI/SCADA interfaces, and data acquisition systems for critical nuclear plant processes. Oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of existing automation systems to ensure maximum reliability and uptime. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff on automation best practices and technologies. Collaborate with nuclear operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to identify automation opportunities that enhance safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for automation system failures or performance issues. Ensure all automation systems comply with NRC regulations, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, and nuclear quality assurance requirements. Manage automation projects from concept through commissioning, including scope definition, budgeting, and schedule management. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, system architectures, maintenance procedures, and training materials. Implement cybersecurity measures for industrial control systems in accordance with NRC and NERC CIP requirements. Evaluate emerging automation technologies and lead continuous improvement initiatives. Support outage planning and execution for automation system upgrades and modifications. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. 7+ years of experience in industrial automation with focus on development and maintenance. Expert-level knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar), DCS, and SCADA systems. Strong programming skills in ladder logic, structured text, function block diagrams, and scripting languages (Python, VBA). Demonstrated experience leading automation projects in regulated or safety-critical environments. Deep understanding of instrumentation, control theory, and process automation. Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance for nuclear facility access. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
