Building Scalable Web Applications as a Staff Software Engineer

Staff Software Engineer As a Staff Software Engineer on our product team, you will directly shape our customer-facing web app and own our highest-priority engineering initiatives. You'll partner closely with the Product Designer, Founders, and lead our engineering team to build reliable software that drives customer retention and product velocity. You will be responsible for defining technical direction, translating customer feedback into clear technical requirements, breaking down work across teams, owning architecture, core features, and high-quality implementation, improving reliability, scalability, and maintainability across the codebase, instrumenting customer events inside our web app, ensuring PostHog receives clean, reliable data for evaluating retention and feature impact, and building charts/dashboards in PostHog to extract insights quickly to inform product decisions. About This Opportunity Build a scalable and reliable web application using Python and JavaScript Work with the Product Designer and Founders to define the technical direction of the project Partner with the AI Engineer to implement AI/ML models into the web application Instrument customer events inside the web app to measure user behavior Use PostHog to analyze customer data and inform product decisions Requirements 8+ years of experience building full-stack applications with Python and JavaScript 4+ years of production React experience Able to translate Figma designs into scalable React/Python implementations Strong product-growth instincts and experience with event instrumentation Skilled with PostHog, Amplitude, Mixpanel, or similar tools Exceptional communicator who builds trust, aligns teams, and drives decisions Staff-level depth: setting technical direction, making architectural tradeoffs, delivering impact Adept at balancing technical debt, infra cost, engineering hours, and time-to-ship Comfortable in fast-paced startup environments where engineers own infrastructure end-to-end Our Stack Python (FastAPI) - backend TypeScript (React) - frontend Postgres (Supabase) PostHog - product analytics AWS - cloud infrastructure Github - source control This is an exceptional opportunity to join our product team and drive the development of a world-class web application.
