Chief Operating Officer (COO), dnata Brazil

The Chief Operating Officer (COO), dnata Brazil will be responsible for all aspects and activities related to Operations, focusing on improving profitability and margin, driving increased demand, improving service quality whilst maintaining safety standards, reducing costs, and ensuring alignment to the company business objectives and strategic vision.

Responsibilities:
  1. Work closely with the executive team to define and implement effective operational and growth strategies and execution timelines to meet customer expectations and financial budget targets.
  2. Translate business strategies into functional strategies and business goals for growth, profitability, and performance.
  3. Maintain an understanding of what is happening across the business and plan functional activities with an annual plan.
  4. Provide integrated vision, strategic plans, and targets for all operational units aligned to overall strategy.
  5. Develop and implement policies and processes to ensure procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled.
  6. Contribute to the annual forecasting and budgeting process and deliver the operational budget.
  7. Monitor financial performance against set budgets to ensure delivery against the set targets.
  8. Optimize resource allocation and costs to match the business needs and lead unit managers to achieve this in each location.
  9. Drive change through continuous improvement of systems, processes, and practices within function remit to maximize efficiencies in line with agreed targets.
  10. Conduct research to identify new markets, customers’ needs, and opportunities. Make recommendations to CEO for investment in operational improvement initiatives where required.
  11. Effectively balance short-term and long-term considerations when dealing with problems relevant to the function.
  12. Produce accurate reporting and recommend to executive leadership.
  13. Ensure compliance to the required standards as set in ‘The dnata way’ and to state/local legislations.
  14. Oversee non-compliance reports and ensure resolution.
  15. Ensure all operational services adhere to airline and airport operations stipulated rules and regulations.
  16. Act in the best interest of the company at all times, ensure business decisions are made following appropriate due diligence.
  17. Build and strengthen partnerships and relationships with clients, external stakeholders, and key external parties (e.g. airport authorities, union representatives, vendors, investors, international clients) to foster revenue growth opportunities.
  18. Drive the dnata Vision, Mission, and Values in the business and models the behaviors and intent of the VMV’s in all people practices.
  19. Set clear and measurable objectives for direct reports and drive performance accountability.
  20. Work with local HR to ensure effective Talent Management and Succession Planning are in place to mitigate the risks of skills gaps.
  21. Lead with safety as a priority, ensuring all decisions are made with safety in mind.
  22. Oversee the design and implementation of best practice safety management system and regularly monitor its effectiveness.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business or related areas and a minimum of 12 years’ experience in operational management roles within a large-scale organization.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ airline industry experience. Ground handling experience preferred.
  • Industrial Relations experience in Brazil (or similar market).
  • Track record leading a Merger & Acquisition integration project is an asset.
  • Experience in strategic planning.
  • Must be able to travel frequently within the country and some international travel.
  • Fluent in English and Portuguese. Spanish is a plus.
  • A hands-on approach and a passion for people.
