In this full‑time, remote role you will work directly with a small, highly skilled engineering team (3–5 seasoned engineers) to architect and build the most complex components of our platform. Compensation : $100 per hour ($200,000/year, assuming 40 hours/week, 50 weeks/year). Compensation is based on your experience and skill level, with weekly payments through Crossover. Platforms TimeBack: An educational platform that drives Alpha School’s 2‑hour learning model, achieving the 99th percentile on test outcomes. Incept: A content generation platform producing personalized educational materials for diverse learning applications deployed at Alpha School. Crossover: An AI‑powered hiring platform that handles tens of thousands of applications monthly, enabling staffing solutions worldwide. You will own one platform and focus on building the most complex components of the codebase with minimal junior members. Your architectural decisions will determine how easily other teams can develop, integrate, and deliver value to students. What You Will Be Doing Technical Leadership : Define strategic architectural directions and set technical patterns that guide the team. AI Leadership : Champion the integration of emerging AI workflows and develop high‑impact playbooks. Implementation : Construct mission‑critical sections of the codebase in collaboration with your team. Quality Reviews : Ensure team adherence to established patterns and upholding quality benchmarks. What You Won’t Be Doing Serving as an architect who never writes code. Being trapped in continuous meetings. Managing personnel (this role focuses on technical leadership, not people management). Maintaining legacy systems or internal IT infrastructure. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience building products. Minimum 3 years in a lead engineer or architect role (conducting code reviews, driving key technical decisions). Proven experience developing platform‑level products that other teams integrate through APIs. Substantial involvement with AI tools, continuously experimenting and exploring new frontiers.
