The IFC 3.0 strategy aims to stimulate more investment activity across emerging markets, especially in Low Income Countries (LICs) and Fragile and Conflict affected States (FCS). This strategy aims to create new opportunities for private investments in riskier markets and sectors by proactively working “upstream” to create, deepen, and expand markets and design and develop potential investment projects. Achieving these growth and impact ambitions at scale requires a different approach to business development, deal sourcing, and client support.

In this context, IFC is seeking a Senior Operations Officer for its Agribusiness and Forestry Upstream and Advisory program in the Latin America & Caribbean (LAC) Region. The Senior Operations Officer will work under the supervision of Upstream and Advisory Manager in enabling investment opportunities, enhancing investment outcomes, and improving investment conditions in the agribusiness sector in the LAC region.

The selected candidate will be expected to lead the implementation of Upstream and Advisory existing projects and in the origination of new ones essential to build the pipeline of future IFC investments in Agribusiness in the LAC region. S/he would work across IFC business lines and support policy work and other interventions across the World Bank Group.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Enable investment opportunities in the Agribusiness and Forestry space by incubating high-impact projects and initiatives that require upstream project development.
  2. Enhance investment outcomes through Upstream and Advisory projects that increase the development impact of IFC investments.
  3. Improve investment conditions in the Agribusiness and Forestry sectors by leading collaborations to drive sector-wide change.
  4. Support business development efforts and ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
  5. Work closely with sector and country leads to foster cross-departmental collaboration.
  6. Ensure a high quality of the team’s operations through a focus on project design and achieving high Development Effectiveness (DE).
  7. Engage with and establish partnerships with thought leaders and decision makers.
  8. Spot game-changing trends, technologies, and business models that can increase development impact.
  9. Disseminate and absorb knowledge and experience across the regional industry department and global teams.

Selection Criteria

  1. Master's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Agribusiness, Engineering, or another related field.
  2. 10 – 15 years of relevant work experience.
  3. Experience developing solutions for private sector clients in Agribusiness and/or Forestry sectors.
  4. Familiarity with decarbonization and resource efficiency practices in the agribusiness and forestry sectors.
  5. Strong organizational skills and proven ability to work on several assignments simultaneously.
  6. Outstanding analytical, creative problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  7. Strong written and verbal communications skills in English; proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred.
