The Global Health and Safety Specialist will report directly to the Global Health and Safety Director, and will provide the necessary support, coordination and technical expertise in the area of health and safety across all our locations globally to help us achieve an injury-free workplace. This position will have accountability for implementing resilient and sustainable strategies which improve safety performance; nourish a culture in which safety is an overriding value in all activities and in which every team member assumes accountability for safety; assuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Embedding Health and Safety as a core value across all our mills, forestry operations and non-manufacturing locations globally.
- Supporting the development and implementation of our global Health and Safety strategy, policies, procedures to ensure compliance with national/local regulations and Sylvamo policies in a way that leads to a safe, injury-free and resilient work environment.
- Supporting the implementation of our Resilient Safety Culture, Safety Leading Indicators and Safety Leadership efforts to continuously reduce exposures to risk.
- Coordinating health and safety audit programs including corrective action plan tracking (both internal and external).
- Developing and implementing effective safety training programs.
- Providing technical support to achieve our aspiration of an accident-free workplace while positively impacting profitability and operational excellence.
- Facilitating sharing of Best Practices between all of Sylvamo's global operations.
- Supporting established teams to more effectively accomplish their mission (Safety committees, Mill Leadership Teams, ad-hoc teams, etc.).
- Supporting and coordinate the industrial hygiene and ergonomics programs.
- Providing support related to trade association, legislative and regulatory advocacy initiatives.
- Managing our safety databases in support of our governance processes.
- Fostering partnerships with our contractors on safety.
- Traveling to sites globally (US, Brazil, France and Sweden) to provide hands-on support as necessary.
What you will need
- A bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or technical discipline.
- CSP and/or CIH certifications (or other national equivalent professional qualifications) preferred, as well as practical experience.
- 5+years hands-on Safety experience in a highly regulated manufacturing/industrial environment.
- Experience in the pulp and paper industry is preferred, but not essential.
- Expertise in PSM/Process Safety Management is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others.
- Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written) in English. Must be an effective listener.
- Clear ability to manage change and coordinate multiple projects and deadlines.
- Established skill to execute effectively and deliver results.

**Location**:
Role can be located in Memphis, Tennessee, or at one of our global manufacturing locations (US, Brazil, France and Sweden) or potentially home based.
