Located in the heart of Canada's capital next door to the Parliament Buildings, the landmark Fairmont Chateau Laurier hotel in Ottawa is looking to fill two roles of Overnight Maintenance Technician / Shift Engineer for a total of 84 hours, calculated bi-weekly.

Schedule starts at 8 PM and ends at 8 AM the next morning, with working days as follows:

  1. Week 1: Mo-Tue-Wed-Thu (or Thu, Fri-Sat-Sun)
  2. Week 2: Mo-Tue-We (or Fri-Sat-Sun)

Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Engineering, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • Conduct rounds of specified areas including lights
  • Answer all calls and perform repairs throughout the hotel
  • Perform chemical tests for boilers, chillers, swimming pool, etc.
  • Be part of the fire response team and stand by in the event of any emergencies
  • Conduct preventative maintenance as scheduled by the Engineering Department
  • Experience with chillers, boilers, and refrigeration systems
  • Experience with HVAC systems and associated preventative maintenance
  • Able to perform minor plumbing, mechanical, and electrical repairs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Previous hotel experience is an asset
  • Graduate from a technical school
  • Building Operator Certificate or Maintenance Technician certification is an asset
  • Computer literate with knowledge of BAS computer system, Microsoft Word, and Outlook
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in maintenance and repairs

Physical Aspects of Position (included but not limited to):

  • Constant standing and walking throughout the shift
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding work including frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps
