Senior Backend Engineer at GigEasy AI This role will earn you a competitive salary range of $36,000 – $42,000 per year, with pay based on skills and experience. Base pay range $36,000.00/yr - $42,000.00/yr About GigEasy GigEasy is revolutionizing insurance for the gig economy. We’re building an AI‑powered insurance marketplace platform that connects brokers, businesses, and carriers through seamless API integrations and chat bots, simplifying how contractors and small businesses buy, manage, and pay for insurance. Our platform is API‑first, workflow‑driven, and designed to power a next‑gen digital insurance experience. GigEasy is backed by Platform Venture Studio and led by experienced founders and investors who have built and scaled venture‑backed startups before. Role As Lead Backend Engineer, you’ll take ownership of GigEasy’s core API platform. You’ll lead the backend buildout, own integrations with external insurance carriers and payment processors, and collaborate closely with our front‑end engineer and technical advisor to bring the product to life. You will help shape system architecture, establish backend best practices, and lay the technical foundation for GigEasy's long‑term scalability. Key Responsibilities Lead backend development of our API marketplace using Node.js + TypeScript + Drizzle ORM + MySQL. Build integrations with 3rd‑party APIs. Collaborate with frontend engineer building React/Next.js UI. Translate product requirements into technical specs. Build and maintain scalable, secure API endpoints. Write clean, maintainable, well‑tested code. Work closely with our fractional CTO (technical advisor) to architect and optimize backend workflows. Implement system monitoring, error handling, and observability. Participate in sprint planning, retros, and stand‑ups. Write technical documentation for code, API endpoints, and architecture. Tech Stack Backend: Node.js, TypeScript, Drizzle ORM, MySQL Frontend: React, Next.js Deployment: AWS (RDS, EC2), Vercel (optional), GCP (potential) Integrations: Briza, Epay Policy, Stripe, NIPR, Ascend, etc. Tooling: Postman, Notion, Zapier, ChatPRD, Taskmaster‑AI Ideal Qualifications 7+ years backend development experience with Node.js + TypeScript. Strong API integration experience (REST, JSON, OAuth, JWT, Webhooks, third‑party APIs). Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL preferred). Experience with API‑first product development and SaaS systems. Strong systems architecture skills with ability to build for scale. Comfortable working in early‑stage, fast‑paced, startup environments. Excellent written and verbal communication. Able to collaborate with non‑technical founder and advise on technical tradeoffs. Bonus Points For Insurance, InsurTech, or Fintech platform experience. Prior experience integrating payment systems (Stripe, Epay Policy, Ascend). Experience building dynamic workflow engines or rules‑based platforms. Familiarity with AWS or multi‑cloud deployments. Startup or venture‑backed experience.
