Datacenter Mechanical Regional Engineer, Colocation Region Engineering- AMER role at Amazon Web Services (AWS).
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the cloud. We work on challenging problems with many variables affecting the supply chain.
You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You will collaborate with teams across AWS to deliver safety and security while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost. AWS data centers are the foundation for our software and services; this role offers opportunities to influence standards, build processes, and guide the colocation data center portfolio globally. A strong leader with MEPS infrastructure design experience will find a fast-paced, rewarding environment.
Responsibilities- Conduct site assessments against AWS standards for colocation data centers, legacy facility upgrades, and general capital projects.
- Perform risk analyses and availability calculations for vendor-owned and operated colocation data centers to determine fit-for-use/fit-for-service.
- Influence AWS design and specification requirements to meet business needs for colocation products.
- Investigate and document root-cause analyses for infrastructure and equipment failures.
- Collaborate with vendors and local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and codes.
- Work with engineering, construction, operations, and commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of critical electrical/mechanical/fire suppression/controls systems and structural systems.
- Support operations, data scientists, and other business partners to determine utilization, efficiency, and performance of critical systems.
- Travel to data center sites as required (up to 50% internationally and domestically).
- Serve as Resident Engineer for AWS Construction and Commissioning works and partner with on-site/field teams during the data center lifecycle.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning-specific education
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Experience with design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission-critical facilities, especially data centers
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
- Knowledge of commercial or industrial power or mechanical systems
- Experience moving design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment
- Experience using web-based tools for calculations and data processing
