Job Description We're a healthcare software-as-a-service company preparing for launch. As our new automation engineer, your primary objective is to enhance the quality of our products and prevent regressions before they reach production. Key responsibilities include developing an automation strategy from scratch and integrating it directly into our continuous integration process on every pull request. Our tech stack includes React, Tailwind, shadcn, HeroUI for frontend development; Supabase and PostgreSQL for backend operations; and GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipeline management. What You Will Do Develop and implement an automation strategy and framework using Playwright or Cypress. Add test gates to PRs via GitHub Actions to ensure a total pipeline time of 12 minutes or less. Create reliable UI E2E and component tests for approximately 10 critical flows. Design and implement lightweight performance tests using k6 or similar tools and track benchmarks. Establish a data strategy involving synthetic/anonymized data, fixtures, and environment management. Maintain a flake rate of 1-2% or less and have a plan in place for deflaking and quarantine. Ensure cross-browser coverage for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Drive quality observability through dashboards, defect triage, and audit trails. Counsel the team on testing best practices. What You Bring A minimum of three years' experience as a SDET or Test Automation Engineer. Strong coding skills in TypeScript or JavaScript. Hands-on experience with Playwright or willingness to migrate from Cypress. Proven experience with CI-integrated E2E and API testing using GitHub Actions. Cross-browser and responsive testing expertise. A solid understanding of API testing and system design. Strong discipline around flakes, determinism, and parallelization. Fluent English language skills and excellent asynchronous communication abilities. 90-Day Outcomes Implement a Playwright suite covering 10 critical flows. Reduce the PR pipeline time to 12 minutes or less with test gates in place. Maintain a flake rate of 1-2% or less with a quarantine workflow. Ensure cross-browser runs and initial performance baselines. Nice to Have Experience with backend and component testing using Playwright. Accessibility testing and visual regression expertise. Background in HIPAA-compliant or anonymized-data environments. BrowserStack expertise. Performance testing using k6 or JMeter/Gatling. Observability hooks including trace IDs and log scrapers. Supabase and PostgreSQL fixture and migration testing expertise. How We Work 100% remote work arrangement. Close collaboration with CTO and Engineering teams; occasional partnership with Product and UX when necessary. Pragmatic test pyramid approach: unit/component/API testing first; E2E for core journeys; performance and contract tests as gates. Hiring Process Introductory chat (30-45 minutes).
