Staff software engineer

The Staff Software Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and evolving software systems that are robust, scalable, and aligned with the companys strategic objectives. As a Staff Software Engineer, the goal is to identify the most appropriate technical solution for each problem. Sometimes the best approach may be a well-architected existing library or service, while other times it may require designing new systems from the ground up. A high level of technical rigor is expected, with well-documented designs, reproducible results, and reliable systems. It is also expected that you stay updated with software engineering best practices, architectural patterns, and emerging technologies, while effectively incorporating domain knowledge into the solutions you build. Solutions are expected to be developed end-to-end, from design and prototyping to production deployment and long-term maintenance, always meeting high engineering standards. You will also know when to build versus buy, ensuring accelerated value delivery. The Staff Software Engineer is, above all, a pragmatic problem-solver, technical leader, and a core contributor to the success of all products developed by Shape Digital. Responsibilities: Explore and identify opportunities to improve and evolve the companys software architecture and platform foundations. Write and guide others to write high-quality, scalable, secure, and maintainable code following best practices. Partner with product managers, designers, and domain experts to translate business needs into technical solutions. Lead the design and development of complex software systems, ensuring they meet performance, security, and reliability requirements. Manage the technical backlog, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term architectural evolution. Mentor senior engineers and influence across multiple teams, driving adoption of engineering excellence and best practices. Ensure software systems follow rigorous quality standards, including testing, monitoring, and documentation. Stay current with emerging technologies, frameworks, and architectural paradigms, applying them when they create business value. Contribute to technical strategy, architectural decision-making, and long-term technology vision. Requirements: A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field. Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#, Go, or similar). Proven experience in designing and maintaining large-scale, distributed, or mission-critical systems. Solid understanding of software architecture, system design, and design patterns. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and modern software delivery methodologies. Familiarity with databases (SQL and NoSQL) and cloud-native architectures. Advanced/Fluent English.  Differentials: Knowledge of industrial or enterprise-scale systems. Experience with Cloud platforms: Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform. Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code, observability stacks, and security best practices. Contributions to open-source projects, technical publications, or patents.
