Job Description
The Underwriting Senior Analyst will play an important role within our newly formed Brazil team. Responsible for underwriting enterprise customer applications, using your judgment to carefully balance risk and reward, with a focus on analysis relevant to Credit Exposure, Due Diligence, and enhanced Financial Analysis. This role offers unique exposure to our core business areas, collaborating with key internal stakeholders (Business Development, Sales, Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Top Management) and our high-value merchants and partners.
Key Responsibilities

• Leveraging experience, you will conduct business model analysis in line with internal policy guidelines and apply complex evaluation techniques to achieve the desired results for complex deals
• Conduct proficient analysis of P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements of complex business models and demonstrate a competent understanding of accounting principles
• Prepare persuasive summaries to assess micro and macro risks, mitigants, and make balanced recommendations to present to management and the Credit Risk Committee
• Represent Underwriting in attending customer calls and meetings alongside Sales or Account Management.
• Approve teammates' credit submissions in line with delegated approval authority.
• Identify operational issues and areas for improvement, and make detailed recommendations on how to improve the merchant onboarding experience.
• Foster a culture of collaboration with key internal stakeholders, in particular Sales, Compliance, first and second line Risk personnel, and Legal.
• Act as a mentor to junior team members through training initiatives and credit approvals
• Contribute to underwriting-driven projects as required.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to automate underwriting criteria and risk parameters in onboarding flows.
• Act as the technical point of contact in internal, external, and regulatory audits when matters involve credit risk, onboarding, or financial exposure.
• Support card scheme registrations.
• Report internally identified suspected or attempted fraud cases to CERC Protect.
• This role offers significant growth potential within our dynamic and strategically important Brazil market, paving the way for wider merchant risk management responsibilities, including fraud monitoring and scheme compliance.
  

Technical Requirements

• Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related fields.
• Experience in underwriting, financial analysis, or a risk-related role, ideally within the payments industry.
• Knowledge of applicable regulations, such as BCB Resolutions No. 117/2021, No. 96/2021, and other prudential standards for payment institutions, is preferable.
• Fluency in English and Portuguese is required.
  • Additionally, fluency in Spanish is preferable.
    

Qualifications

• Subject matter expertise in underwriting and financial analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound judgment, balancing risk and reward.
• Ability to continually monitor and manage competing priorities and adjust accordingly.
• Possesses excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Competent in underwriting high-risk lines of business, including travel, subscriptions, ticketing and events, securities dealers, gambling, amongst others.
• Preferably, candidates possess industry expertise and can act as a subject matter expert in a particular industry(ies).
• Experience within Customer Due Diligence (KYC and KYB).
• Adopt a 'customer first' mindset to deliver creative solutions for our merchants.
• Competent escalation management - act with urgency to ensure escalations are prioritized, owned, and resolved effectively.
• Possess enthusiasm to drive process improvement initiatives, and contribute to broader department initiatives and projects.
• High performance mindset, defined by rigorous discipline and execution intensity.
• Contribute to cross-team collaboration and building a One Team culture.

• Desirable if you have coached, mentored, or led teams in the past.
