This LATAM Hub – Brazil Legal role supports the Brazil affiliate within the LATAM region, providing legal counsel to the Hub Leadership team and supporting regional legal needs related to marketing, sales, development matters, and regulatory and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities- Provide day-to-day legal support to the Brazil affiliate to achieve business objectives, minimize legal risks, and ensure compliance with local laws, regulations and company policies, covering corporate structure, commercial, promotion, regulatory, transactions, litigation, competition, anti-bribery, FCPA, sanctions, advertising, tax, IP, and labor issues.
- Proactively identify and communicate changes in the law that may affect business operations; assist with internal controls and compliance program enhancements.
- Develop and implement legal strategies, programs, and practices; lead and participate in cross-functional and cross-geographical collaborations to replicate best practices.
- Coordinate with International Business Unit and Corporate Center for consistent, one-voice counseling and efficient use of legal resources.
- Defend the company in government investigations or inquiries; assist with internal investigations in coordination with in-house counsel, HR, and Compliance resources.
- Develop and conduct training programs for the Affiliate's employees; support budgeting, global business solutions, anti-counterfeit activities, AI projects, and advocacy activities with local associations and legal organizations.
- Lead high-risk, high-complexity projects with budget management across a broad area of the business; maintain regular exposure to functional managers.
- Foster a culture of Ethics and Compliance and ensure awareness of company policies in providing counsel.
- Lead and organize all litigation efforts affecting the Affiliate (labor, product liability, consumer, small claims, government and commercial) including strategy development, coordinating with leadership and cross-functional partners, managing outside counsel, tracking matters, budgeting, and supervising support staff.
- Coordinate with international and Indianapolis-based colleagues to identify cross-geography strategies and best practices for outside counsel use.
- Partner with peers to counsel on pricing negotiations, tenders, government programs, marketing practices, supply chain, trade association engagement, regulatory engagement (e.g., ANVISA), corporate affairs advocacy, medical affairs communications, and clinical trials.
Education : Degree in law from a top university.
Languages : Fluent in Portuguese and English; working proficiency in Spanish.
Experience : At least 10 years' experience in an international law firm or in-house legal department of a multinational pharmaceutical company or a Capability Center service company. Experience with and ability to counsel directly in Brazil and one or more major LATAM markets. Optional: international or non-pharmaceutical multinational experience.
SkillsExperience with labor, product liability, consumer, small claims, government and commercial litigation in Brazil; strong business and technical knowledge to improve products, processes and services. Ability to work independently, lead large projects, manage risk, and collaborate cross-functionally. Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, and judgment skills; ability to influence stakeholders and develop practical solutions.
