Redefine the embedded Linux experience with the smallest, most secure, and most reliable operating system in the IoT market. This is an opportunity for a technical engineering manager passionate about open source software, Linux, containers, security, and the developer experience, to shape the future of Linux from the smallest systems up to desktops. This challenging role demands a high degree of technical and management skill.
Our mission is to enable everyone to build robust solutions in various fields including IoT, automotive, and aviation using the next-generation secure embedded Linux operating system. We focus on providing reliable and secure device recovery mechanisms that simplify and standardize field operations for heterogeneous appliances.
As an engineering manager, you'll lead a team of skilled software developers to design and implement Ubuntu Core system software across various CPU architectures such as ARM, RISC-V, and X86. You will meet stakeholders, prioritize requests, plan the roadmap, and ensure your team meets its goals. You will also influence organizational culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work on strategy and execution with your team.
What you'll do- Build and lead a distributed team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career development.
- Contribute directly to your team's goals demonstrating sound engineering principles.
- Support timely delivery of technical solutions to meet business needs.
- Manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Promote modern, agile software development practices and evangelize best engineering and organizational practices.
- Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
- Participate actively in leadership discussions and collaborate with other leaders.
- Work remotely with biannual travel for company events.
- You love technology and working with talented people.
- You are curious, adaptable, articulate, and accountable.
- You have experience developing and growing people, with a proven track record.
- You are passionate about software development.
- You have leadership experience managing software developers.
- You are skilled in planning and executing to deliver high-quality software on time.
- You have solid experience working in agile environments.
- You hold a Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or similar.
- You have experience with embedded software.
- You are familiar with Golang, C/C++, and Shell scripting.
- You understand Linux well, preferably with experience in Debian or Ubuntu.
