Piping Engineer

Piping Engineer – Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina

At AtkinsRéalis is looking for Piping Engineer(s) to support the design of new nuclear power plants and the operation and refurbishment of existing CANDU nuclear power plants. This role requires self-motivation, the ability to work independently, and to develop a career in the nuclear field under the supervision of a qualified professional engineer.

Location – Buenos Aires, Argentina

This position requires the ability to follow instructions from a qualified professional engineer to complete mechanical engineering scopes and develop necessary engineering design documentation. The candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulation requirements.
• Coordinate and interface with client, suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work, involving conceptual, preliminary and/or detailed design of CANDU or Nuclear process systems and modifications under supervision of a P.Eng.
• Learn and prepare engineering computations and analyses using applicable software (e.g., PipeStress, CaesarII, AutoPipe, MATLAB, MathCAD, ANSYS Mechanical, LSDYNA). Model complex piping and support arrangements using finite element techniques.
• Perform pipe stress evaluation of piping systems (nuclear class or non-nuclear class) in accordance with ASME Section III, Div.1, and/or ASME B31.1; perform thermal, fatigue, seismic, linear and non-linear analyses per ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, Div.1.
• Prepare Design Change Package (DCP) and Design Change Notice (DCN) packages following customer procedures, including drawings, calculations, design specifications, and related documents.
• Prepare TSSA registration packages for pressure boundary modifications.
• Provide technical guidance to Designers/Drafters and junior staff as required.
• Support field construction and execution activities, such as field changes, design revisions, commissioning, and closeout.
• Complete assigned scopes within given budget and schedule, with quality.
• Perform site visits to client and supplier locations as required and field walk-downs during design phases.

• Engineering Degree in Mechanical from an accredited university.
• 1, 3, 5, or 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering within heavy industrial sectors (e.g., mining, oil & gas, power generation, or nuclear energy), corresponding to Junior, Intermediate, and Senior levels.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical and piping systems and equipment; familiarity with CANDU nuclear systems is an asset. Working knowledge of CSA N285.0, CSA B51, CSA N289, ASME Section III, and ANSI B31.1 is preferred.
• Design engineering experience in nuclear class 2, 3 and 6 piping systems, valves, pumps for Nuclear Power Plants is preferred. Experience with PipeStress, CaesarII, AutoPipe, MATLAB, MathCAD, ANSYS Mechanical, LSDYNA or similar software is an asset. ASME Appendix XXIII qualification is a plus.
• Strong technical and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Site experience in construction or commissioning of mechanical systems for nuclear or heavy industries is an asset.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
