Desktop Support Engineer Job Description As a Desktop Support Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our organization's computer systems and networks. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Responsibilities: Provide tier 1 and tier 2 support for desktop computers, laptops, printers, and other peripheral devices. Troubleshoot hardware and software issues using various tools and techniques. Collaborate with other teams to resolve complex technical issues. Document all support interactions and incidents using our ticketing system. Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date with new technologies and best practices. Required Skills and Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications: Basic knowledge of network devices such as switches, routers, and wireless access points. Understanding of switch port assignment to VLANs. Ability to patch phone ports to switches as needed. Basic troubleshooting skills for Avaya VOIP phones. Knowledge of fiber links between switches and ability to visualize errors. Troubleshooting and replacement of network switch chassis blades. Good understanding of data center infrastructure management applications. Regular visual checks of IDF rooms for cooling and power status. Basic knowledge of monitoring tools such as Solarwinds. Networking and operating system basics. Assistance to network and data center administrators during troubleshooting. Basic knowledge of hardware such as servers and storage devices. Understanding of monitoring tool outcomes. Basic knowledge of ITSM tools preferably ServiceNow. Basic knowledge of backup technologies preferably EMC Avamar. Basic knowledge of operating systems such as Windows 2003 servers, UNIX, and Linux. Basic knowledge of Windows 2003 Active Directory structure, MS Exchange 2003, and File/Print Server.
