Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is a worldwide leader in this field. We are actively looking for a Junior level Mechanical Designer Technician to join our Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo office. As part of the Mechanical Group, the Mechanical Engineer Designer will have experience with solid bulk conveyance systems, hydraulic modelling and design of liquid bulk transmission systems, as well as utility (water / sewer / stormwater) systems. Experience in industrial complex and / or marine terminals are a plus.

Duties and responsibilities

• Prepare a variety of designs from agricultural bulk material, and mining bulk in Port Terminals or industrial plants
• Prepare designs in waterfront facilities such as marinas, container terminals, marine oil terminals and pump stations and utilities (firefighting / water / sewer / stormwater) systems projects
• Perform hydraulic modelling and analysis of liquid bulk transmission systems and utility (water / sewer / stormwater) systems
• Prepare design documents (plans and specifications) with an emphasis on utility service design
• Design piping to support projects such as liquid bulk terminals and utilities, including piping design using Plant 3D or similar software
• Generate proposals and develop fee estimates for PS&E packages
• Assist with condition assessment inspections for terminals equipment and utilities infrastructure

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (Desirable)
• 2-6 years of experience in mechanical design related to bulk material handling
  • Experience in 3D piping design required
  • Plant 3D or equivalent (PDMS, PDS, etc.) experience required
• Design experience in industrial complex and / or marine terminals is a plus
• General understanding of process design, process flow diagram development, and piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) development
• Acknowledgement in developing equipment specification, calculation, data sheets, drawings reviews and other documents related to mechanical design
• Some planning and task management skills
• Complete piping and pipelines stress analysis using CAESAR is a plus
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English. Spanish is an advantage
• All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions

Sedentary for prolonged period of time, interact with clients, and travel occasionally.
