Light Vehicle Technician

Responsibilities:

1. Performs maintenance, diagnosis and repair of generators and small equipment, snowmobiles, and ATVs.
2. Performs rebuilds on engines, drive trains or components or equipment.
3. Provides training for personnel on the safe use of the above equipment.
4. Performs on-site maintenance and repair to equipment in the field, as required.
5. In field camps, works as Equipment Operator as required, including, but not limited to: grooming the skiway and loading/unloading aircraft.
6. Trains camp staff on proper equipment and vehicle usage.
7. Contributes to field camp end of season report, as required.
8. Maintains detailed records on all work performed and completes work orders.
9. Operates and maintains equipment including compressors, presses, air tools, electric power tools, forklifts, grooming equipment, etc.
10. Assists MEC Shop Foreman/Camp Manager with daily operations.
11. Maintains a clean, orderly and safe work area.
12. Performs duties in support of metrics (as provided by the supervisor).
13. Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether they can be directly or indirectly affected by job duties.
14. Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals.
15. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
16. Works to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitments.
17. Maintains workplace program and ensures safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
18. Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

1. High School diploma or GED
2. Technician Level I: A minimum of two years' experience in maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline small engines and generators is required.
3. Technician Level II: A minimum of four years' experience in maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline small engines and generators is required, or three years' experience in maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline small engines and generators with at least one season experience working on vehicles in Antarctica.
4. Technician Level III: A minimum of seven years' experience in maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline small engines and generators is required.

Preferred:

1. Training at a technical school
2. Experience working on small engines and generators in Antarctica
3. Experience in snowmobile or ATV maintenance and repair and/or maintenance of tracked vehicles such as Tucker Sno-Cats and Pisten Bullys
4. Previous cold weather experience
5. Wilderness First Responder Certification
6. Experience with diesel, two and four stroke engines; maintaining small engines
7. Experience with electrical power generation
8. Experience rebuilding engines
9. Experience rebuilding gear cases and drive trains
10. Able to read and understand wiring schematics
11. Able to teach end users how to use and field maintain equipment

Physical and/or Other Requirements:

1. Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
2. Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
3. Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
4. Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
5. Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
6. Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
7. Must participate in community programs, such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
