About The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our team and help design, build, and scale data and ML infrastructure using the latest technologies from Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and AWS. As a key contributor, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand and address their data and machine learning platform requirements. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and scalability of our systems while mentoring team members and driving innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance data infrastructure to support real-time and batch processing of large datasets.
  • Build reliable and reusable services and APIs to facilitate data ingestion, transformation, and querying.
  • Create software tools, products, and systems to monitor and manage ML infrastructure and services.
  • Ensure ML systems are running efficiently for model development, training, evaluation, and inference.
  • Collaborate with senior management, product management, and engineers to develop data products.
  • Develop tools to monitor, debug, and analyze data and ML pipelines.
  • Design and implement scalable data schemas and models.
  • Mentor team members to strengthen the company's technical expertise.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and a passion for excellence to help establish The RealReal as a leader in the space.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of proven experience as a Data Engineer or MLOps Engineer building platform-level capabilities for data-driven midsize to large corporations.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala, with experience in developing large-scale, fault-tolerant systems.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred, but AWS or Azure acceptable).
  • Experience with BigQuery or similar MPP databases (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake).
  • Proficiency with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch and knowledge of ML deployment patterns.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and other container/orchestration tools.
  • Solid experience building data pipelines and working with ETL processes.
  • Comfortable with command-line tools, Git, and other version control systems.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to quickly become productive in a new environment.

Nice To Have Skills
  • Knowledge of distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Kafka, Flink, Spark, or similar.
  • Experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) and Looker.
  • Understanding of common ML deployment patterns.
