Title: Senior Accountant

Reporting Relationship: Accounting Manager
SUMMARY:
The position is responsible for reviewing and ensuring the propriety, accuracy and completeness of financial transactions as basis for reliable financial reports/statements that are in accordance with ChildFund Accounting policies and procedures as well as US and local GAAP/IFRS. The position also ensures that quality month end and corporate reports are met on a timely basis.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
General Accounting and Bookkeeping
- Review and post Accounts Payable and GL accounting entries in accordance with ChildFund accounting policies and donor terms and conditions
- In partnership with Finance Manager (Director), ensure grants and NSP revenues are correctly recorded and appropriate ICR and Shared Program Costs are recognized/charged in accordance with Grant/NSP terms and conditions
- Post payroll allocations according to agreed upon and/or donor terms and conditions
- Ensure capitalization of Fixed Assets and recording of depreciation are correctly calculated in accordance with ChildFund Policies
- Record the appropriate accruals and provisions in compliance with ChildFund and local policies and ensure they are calculated and recorded in the correct accounting periods
- Oversee, review and submit to IO CO month end and other corporate reports according to agreed upon deadlines
- Ensure that the agreed upon financial reports/statements are prepared and disseminated to users on a timely basis
- Ensure that suppliers/vendor standing data are regularly updated

Oversight and Compliance
- Maintain and update the Chart of accounts (COA) in accordance with ChildFund Accounting policies
- Facilitate and/or support the COA and supplier details set up in eFinancials
- Ensure that financial transactions and reports are in accordance with US and local GAAP/IFRS.
- Ensures that proper internal controls exist for all financial activities including compliance with donor’s financial regulations.
- Ensures that accounting manuals are updated and revised periodically.
- Support the resolution and closure of audit recommendations

Others
- Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as maybe assigned by the Accounting Manager from time to time

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- At least 5 years of relevant experience with 3 year experience in INGO is preferable.
- Solid knowledge of the legislation and accounting practices in Brazil.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to establish positive working relationships on the basis of trust, friendliness and respect with a high degree of analytical ability.
- Proficient in Strategic Accounting Planning.
- Ability to manage interpersonal relations and work effectively with others, to establish and maintain good working relations in a multicultural, multiethnic environment while showing sensitivity and respect for diversity
- Mastery of the techniques and methods of generally accepted Accounting principles and laws that govern the activity of INGOs.
- Capacity planning, organizing and self-direction, ability to work independently and under pressure for effective decision making, using common sense and professionalism.
- Ability to assign, direct and supervise office accounting work with a team based in different locations.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Products including advanced Excel.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills in Portuguese. Preferable with good English capability or willingness to learn.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidential financial information.
