**Primary Years Programme Teacher (Alphaville)**:
St. Nicholas School is seeking to appoint a PYP teacher for the Primary section of the Alphaville campus, for the end of July 2023. PYP experience is preferred, but not a requirement. However, recent primary teaching experience is required as this position is not suitable for new or recently qualified teachers.

St Nicholas is authorised as a PYP and MYP school, with plans for DP authorisation, with the first cohort of students sitting their MYP eAssessments in May of 2024. St Nicholas is an inclusive school, with a substantial support team for students of varying profiles.

As part of the school’s commitment to a rounded IB education, all teachers are expected to contribute to the school’s service learning program and PSHE curriculum in a way that is relevant to their experience and interests. The school also offers a wide selection of extracurricular activities, where teachers may propose their own or take part in supporting an afterschool or lunchtime activity.

**Additional desirable (but not crucial) qualities would be**:

**General**:
To maintain ethical and professional standards in attendance, punctuality, appearance, conduct, meetings of deadlines, and the general fulfillment of responsibilities.

The Primary section forms part of the wider St Nicholas community and all community members are expected to contribute positively to the whole community and take a full part in school life.

**Professional Knowledge**:

- To have secure pedagogical knowledge and understanding and be familiar with current educational practices and developments;
- To understand the school’s beliefs about learning and how to implement the IB curriculum framework.

**Planning**:

- To be responsible for the planning, preparation, organisation of learning based on appropriate curriculum documentation and knowledge of the learners’ needs;
- Work collaboratively to produce medium and short-term planning which promotes an integrated curriculum;
- To plan well-paced lessons that take into account different learning styles and the differing levels of each learners’ academic, emotional and cognitive development;
- To effectively liaise with members of the Personalized Learning department and other professionals connected to each learner.

**Approaches to Teaching**:

- To engage in daily practice consistent with the philosophy of the school while emphasising a concept-led and inquiry-based approach and promoting the IBO’s learner profile;
- To create an organised and stimulating physical environment where students develop autonomy over their space and use of resources;
- To use a range and balance of strategies carefully selected for effectiveness and the needs of the group;
- To effectively use ICT for learning and assessing;
- To create an inclusive learning environment in which students have the opportunity to develop agency, learning ways to take responsibility for their learning and interactions with others;
- To support learning outside the classroom as appropriate through fieldwork, trips, and action/ service-learning experiences;
- To set home learning in accordance with school policy, considering the individual needs of the students.

**Assessment**:

- To use a range and balance of fit for purpose strategies in line with the school’s assessment policy to evaluate learning and inform future learning;
- To keep appropriate and systematic records of learning, development and achievement, and progress over time;
- To analyze assessment data against standards to inform teaching and learning;
- To provide timely, specific, relevant feedback that allows student learning to progress;
- To support external assessment processes;

**Reporting**:

- Keep parents informed of the progress and attainment of their children and advise on the needs of the learner, through scheduled parents’ meetings and the school reporting system;

**Communication**:

- To liaise with the Heads of sections, the PL department, and class tutors about the progress and needs of the learner;
- To attend and contribute positively to all relevant school meetings.

**Professional Development**:

- To be responsible for your own learning;
- To participate constructively in the Performance Management system;
- Attend Professional Development courses where appropriate;
- To maintain professional relationships with pupils, teaching colleagues, and support staff.

**Other**:

- Contribute enthusiastically and effectively to the ECA programme;
- To perform break and lunch duties and to cover for absent colleagues;
- To carry out additional duties that might reasonably be asked.
