Intern - Operations

BS Interns are integrated into ABS business operations and will experience various aspects of engineering review, technical problem solving, and/or research and development. Interns will work with a designated advisor to learn and develop skills relating to ABS’s core business functions while also assisting ABS with key deliverables.

Job Duties/Roles
- Primary function of an intern is to develop skills and knowledge of ABS core business functions including but not limited to:
- surveys on classed vessels, platforms or other marine structures and at manufacturers or service suppliers for classification and compliance with statutory requirements.
- reports of inspections and surveys performed.
- contact with clients to resolve problems within area of expertise.
- ABS process instructions related to Operations activities.
- ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System.
- May provide operations support in the form of surveys under the supervision of an experienced Surveyor. Surveys will vary in the nature of their complexity and difficulty.
- May assist in administrative work related to the respective operations office/station under the supervision of an experienced Surveyor or administrative staff.
- May assist in technical advice to Operations and other technical offices.
- May assist in new approaches to problems encountered and recommendations for changes in methods, process instructions or Rules.
- May assist in the development of business performance metrics including the development and implementation of an ongoing business performance monitoring program, and the periodic analysis of operating results to determine causes, trends, etc.
- May assist with the writing and presentation of technical case studies and reports concerning areas of expertise and work performed.
- May collaborate with other departments such as services, class, project management, commercial operations, operations admin staff, etc.
- May assist with data collection efforts for data quality improvement, in both existing and new data streams to support overall business goals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (KSAR)
- Must be available to work a full internship term, 6 hours per day during working days (as a minimum, for 1 year; preferably, for 2 years)
- English is required; advanced English is preferred
- Basic engineering knowledge, proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Excel, Power BI, Outlook, Teams, Word, Powerpoint) is preferred
- Must be a full-time student currently enrolled in an accredited university and pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD degree in one of the following engineering disciplines:

- Civil Structures
- Electrical Systems
- Mechanical Systems
- Ocean/Marine Engineering
- Naval Architecture
- Similar

Minimum years of Experience
Applicants must be working towards an engineering degree at an accredited school (third year onwards preferred).
