- About the Role- The Commercial Negotiation & Strategy team is responsible for the origination, evaluation, structuring, negotiation and execution of targeted options and commercial constructs supporting BHP’s portfolio in Brazil. The team is also responsible for providing critical commercial and strategic advisory and support to the asset and leadership teams.
- The role provides senior leadership to teams focused on shaping the commercial function's strategy and optimising the use of capital to maintain a strong balance sheet and strengthen shareholder relationships. Integrates plans and activities across functional boundaries to deliver a strategy for safe productivity.The Commercial Negotiation & Strategy Lead Principal is a key execution role within a dedicated group primarily focused on supporting and developing BHP’s strategy in Brazil. In this role, you primarily focus on:
- (1) Play a lead role in BHP’s commercial negotiation, planning and execution within Brazil, focused on commercial negotiations while being supported by the broader team.
- (2) Be responsible for tactics and negotiations, and for delivering overall target outcome (within pre-‘mandated’ negotiating envelope).
- (3) Support and execute key commercial transactions relating to the Samarco Asset as required.
- (4) Develop and maintain key external and internal relationships and drive the negotiation mandate for any commercial negotiations that are required in Brazil.**Your overall long-term objectives will also include**:
**1. Contribute to Business Development Strategy**:

- Provide critical commercial and strategic advisory and investment support Brazil portfolio.
- Originate opportunities, assess projects, develop business cases, and communicate outcomes.
- Lead commercial engagement and execution activities for portfolio management opportunities and strategic initiatives.
- Build sustainable relationships with key industry stakeholders.
- Represent BHP at industry events to strengthen market engagement and generate market intelligence.
- Lead the drafting of Board Papers and briefing materials for the Executive Leadership Team, CEO, and Board of Directors.

**2. Commercial Opportunity Development and Execution**:

- Originate, develop, recommend, and execute commercial opportunities aligned with BHP's strategy.
- Frame, evaluate, and communicate risk-reward propositions to enhance investment decision quality.
- Improve investment methodologies, processes, capabilities, and culture to maximize long-term value.
- Mitigate risks across the value chain related to people, community, human rights, environment, and climate.

**3. Project Management and Value Generation**:

- Plan, track, and manage projects to generate value and achieve project outcomes.
- Conduct presentations and workshops using storytelling to connect, influence, and engage audiences.
- About You- To be a top performer you will need:
- At least 10 years of industry and transactional experience (direct investing or sell-side advisory) in corporate/business development, management/strategy consulting investment banking, private equity/debt, VC or hedge fund industry; preferably in the minerals industry.
- An undergraduate degree with a business/finance focus or technical/engineering background preferred.
- MBA or advanced degree is a plus
- Knowledge of the minerals industry; understanding of geology, mining engineering, mineral processing and infrastructure is a plus, as well as experience in an operating business.
- Fluent in Portuguese and English. Intermediary Spanish is highly desirable.
