Purpose of the role- To ensure the organization complies with current health, safety and environmental legislation, approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to employment and service provision.- To work proactively with Lab Management to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices on site.

Job scope- The HSE Officer will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Act as the organization’s lead competent person on site for health, safety and environment as defined by the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 and Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993,FLSmidth and Client Specification.- To engage with the workforce of FLS employees through leadership, coaching and discipline to the rules and regulations binding on the Employees and the Employer.- Report all Health, Safety and Environmental related matters to the- Lab Management and Manager responsible for HSE.- Manage Contractors who are appointed on the site in terms of the- FLS HSE policies and procedures, client and legislative requirements Understand and comply with Health Safety and Environment Policy requirements- Establishment, Co-coordinating and the implementation of health ,safety and environmental programs, processes and procedures for the operation.- Assist site management in complying with current health, safety and environmental legislation and/ or regulations with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the health and safety of employee's, contractors and visitors on the client premises and the environment.- Identification and assessment of Health and Safety risks as well as environmental impact and aspects on the site and the maintenance and continuous improvements of the Health, Safety and Environmental management system accordingly.- Understanding fully the client sites specific HSE requirements, and assist in development of project/ site specific health and safety documentation in accordance with these requirements.- Effectively manage and coordinate site health, safety and environmental- contractor activities in line with the HSE management system.- Also ensuring all legal appointments binding on the Company operations are identified, implemented and Competencies of appointed persons available.-
- Ensure a uniform and consistent approach in HSE management on projects/ sites.- Deploying and driving the site inspection and audit processes to assure adherence to legislation and /or regulations and standards.- Review of Contractor Health and Safety documentation for site and assurance of consistency prior to any works taking place. What you bring- SAMTRAC or equivalent qualification in Safety- 5+ years practical HSE experience- HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment)- Incident Investigation Training Technique- Internal Auditors ISO 14001 & 45001- Knowledge of Legislation requirements (OHS Act and all its regulation)
