Principal Software Engineer Job Description We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team and help build innovative open source software in the container space. As part of the Rancher Container Ecosystem team, you will explore new ideas and work on new and developing projects. You will be a key player in delivering solutions enriching the user experience of cloud-native platforms such as Kubernetes and making the life easier for people running containerized workloads. Our organization within SUSE is responsible for the Rancher product suite. We build open-source software that addresses the operational and security challenges of managing cloud native platforms like Kubernetes, while providing DevOps teams with integrated tools for running containerized workloads. Our flagship product Rancher has over million downloads to-date and is managing mission critical services at Fortune companies and many other organizations large and small around the world.  At SUSE, we are strongly committed to open source and we contribute to numerous free and open projects and initiatives. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to and be part of various open source projects in the container ecosystem, like Kubernetes, Rancher, Fleet, Kubewarden, and Kubernetes distributions. We pride ourselves on our communication and teamwork – we’re all in this together  About You Proficient in English: You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Open Source Enthusiast: You have experience contributing to or maintaining open source projects. Cluster API Knowledge: You are familiar with Cluster API, either through direct involvement or extensive study. Software Engineering Background: You have a solid background as a Software Engineer and are familiar with technologies like Linux Containers/Docker, Kubernetes, or other orchestrators. Effective Communicator: You can clearly articulate product architectures and design proposals. Linux and Tooling Expertise: You are confident using Linux, shell scripting, Git, and other open source development tools. Container and Orchestration Proficiency: You are familiar with Linux containers and container orchestration solutions. Go Programming Passion: You have a strong interest in the Go programming language and a passion for coding. Cloud Experience: You have hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or others. Educational Background: You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or have equivalent experience. Highly Valued Skills: Collaborative Experience: Proven ability to work closely with Software Engineering teams in agile environments such as SCRUM or Kanban. Troubleshooting Skills: Experience in diagnosing and resolving complex issues in highly automated and distributed environments. Testing Automation Knowledge: Familiarity with testing automation frameworks and tools.
