  • You will promote dental health by completing dental prophylaxis, providing oral cancer screening and radiographic studies, charting conditions of decay and disease, and performing procedures in compliance with professional standards.
  • Prior to treatment, you will prepare patients by welcoming, seating, and draping them for their comfort.
  • During the treatment process, you will provide information to patients and colleagues by answering questions and requests.
  • You will maintain instrumentation for dental hygiene treatment by sharpening, sterilizing, and selecting instruments appropriate for the task at hand.
  • In selecting materials and equipment for dental hygiene visits, you will evaluate patients' oral health to determine the most effective approach.
  • Dental prophylaxis is completed by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and from beneath gum margins.
  • By conducting oral cancer screening, feeling and visually examining gums, using probes to locate periodontal disease and to assess levels of recession, and exposing and developing radiographic studies, you will detect any underlying issues.
  • To arrest dental decay, you will apply fluorides and other cavity-preventing agents as necessary.
  • A valid active dental hygiene license in Pennsylvania is required.
  • Familiarity with dental procedures and terminology is essential.
  • You must understand HIPAA regulations and be able to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills are necessary to educate patients on oral health care practices effectively.
