About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Administrator to join our team at Trustly. As a key member of our Software Architecture group, you will be responsible for designing, testing, planning, implementing, protecting, operating, managing, and maintaining our enterprise databases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Expertise and Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance tasks, tune database settings for optimal performance, tackle complex database challenges, and monitor database performance to ensure fast query responses.
  • Backup, Recovery, and Security: Implement advanced backup and recovery strategies, formulate comprehensive disaster recovery plans, and ensure robust security measures.
  • Performance Improvement: Implement database changes to improve performance, develop sharding and indexing policies, and run performance tests to validate recommendations.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Enhance team effectiveness through strategic collaboration with software architects, system administrators, engineers, and data analysts, and prepare and present statistical information for internal and external use.
  • Strategy and Innovation: Contribute significantly to database strategy, innovate in areas of database architecture and security, set standards for data protection and performance optimization, and proactively make recommendations for system improvements.
  • Documentation and Policy Development: Determine, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistency and best practices across the organization.
Requirements
  • Extensive Experience: Proven experience in database design, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance, particularly in high availability environments.
  • PostgreSQL Expertise: Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration and performance tuning.
  • SQL and BI Proficiency: Solid understanding of SQL and Business Intelligence concepts.
  • Linux/Unix Proficiency: Strong command-line skills in Unix environments, essential for administering PostgreSQL databases, including familiarity with shell scripting for automation of routine tasks.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical skills, capable of monitoring database performance and evaluating complex information from various sources.
  • Communication Skills: Great communication skills, able to effectively communicate with managers, developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Detail-Oriented: Keen attention to detail to understand complex systems and recognize how minor errors can lead to major problems.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to quickly and effectively resolve issues as they arise.
  • Professional Development: Commitment to continuous learning and development, fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS Solutions:
  • Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL: Experience in deploying and managing PostgreSQL instances using Amazon RDS, including configuring read replicas, automated backups, and snapshots.
  • Amazon Aurora: Knowledge of using Amazon Aurora for relational database solutions, leveraging its high performance and availability features.
  • Virtualization/Containerization Platforms:
  • Docker: Proficiency in containerizing PostgreSQL using Docker, managing container lifecycles, and orchestrating containers using Docker Compose.
  • Kubernetes: Experience with Kubernetes for deploying, scaling, and managing PostgreSQL in containerized environments. Knowledge of using Helm charts for PostgreSQL deployments and ensuring high availability and resilience within Kubernetes clusters.
