Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of innovative open source software in the container space. As a key member of our Rancher Container Ecosystem team, you will have the opportunity to explore new ideas, work on new and developing projects, and deliver solutions that enrich the user experience of cloud-native platforms like Kubernetes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop innovative open source software solutions for container orchestration and management
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements
  • Contribute to the development of open source projects in the container ecosystem, including Kubernetes, Rancher, and other related projects
  • Work closely with the community to advance the state of the art in container orchestration and management
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality software delivery
Requirements
  • Proficient in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open source projects
  • Familiarity with Cluster API and container orchestration solutions
  • Strong software engineering background with expertise in Linux, containers, and Kubernetes
  • Effective communicator with ability to articulate product architectures and design proposals
  • Linux and tooling expertise, including shell scripting and Git
  • Container and orchestration proficiency, including Go programming language
  • Cloud experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
Preferred Skills
  • Collaborative experience working with software engineering teams in agile environments
  • Troubleshooting skills in highly automated and distributed environments
  • Testing automation knowledge and experience with modern development practices
