About The Role

The RealReal is seeking a highly experienced and self-motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our Growth team. As a key member of our team, you will collaborate closely with Product partners and Engineering management to build technical solutions enhancing The RealReal's on-platform experiences. Your focus will be on acquiring and activating high-value customers, while working closely with Marketing and other business stakeholders to create seamless and engaging customer journeys that optimize our marketing effectiveness.

You will contribute to various initiatives, provide feedback through code reviews and pairing, and be enthusiastic about working in the luxury retail/e-commerce space or passionate about our mission of sustainability in creating a circular economy for high-end goods.

This role reports to the Engineering Manager of Growth and will be fully remote. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will produce high-quality, performant, and testable code that directly contributes to company-wide initiatives. You will lead the product development process, from ideation to implementation to release, and rapidly prototype, run A/B tests, architect, and build solutions that can scale to support millions of users.

  • Rapidly prototype, run A/B tests, architect, and build solutions that can scale to support millions of users
  • Develop using interesting technologies - Elixir, Ruby, React, Typescript, GraphQL, Kafka, AWS/Lambda, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB
  • Have input into design and architectural decisions that will shape the future of our software systems
  • Mentor, actively participate in code reviews, and pair up with a team member to work together on features
  • Act as a strong partner to product and engineering management

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of web application development experience with a track record of successfully shipping consumer or business-facing products
  • Experience in writing reliable and maintainable code, reusable components, and component libraries that may be used by many other engineers
  • Experience with any of Elixir, Erlang, Ruby, Javascript, NextJs, or another programming language
  • Passionate about testing practices and continuous improvement
  • Familiarity with common programming tools such as IDEs, RESTful APIs, Git repositories, TypeScript, version control software, and remote deployment tools
  • Familiarity with event-based architectures, database fundamentals, and GraphQL
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
  • Curiosity about retail/e-commerce, the high-end consignment market, and/or how to create a sustainable, circular economy for luxury goods

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with Javascript, HTML, CSS, and React
  • Experience with GraphQL
  • Experience building microservices
  • Experience building eCommerce platforms
  • Experience working with a CMS, especially Prismic
  • Any experience with mobile development for iOS and/or Android
