OVERVIEW

We are in search of a Lead Software Design Engineer who possesses a fervor for software development to contribute to SAP Concur's Analytics suite. In this role, you will oversee the comprehensive development of features, from gathering requirements to designing and implementing software components for large-scale global deployments. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to delivery and a creative approach to problem-solving. Key technologies utilized by this team include Java, Web, REST, microservices, and Spring Boot.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the broader SAP Concur Analytics team and Area Principal to enhance the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and operational support.
  • Utilize programming languages, software tools, and development environments to create, modify, and maintain applications.
  • Analyze product issues, trace bugs through various code layers, and propose solutions to cross-functional teams.
  • Engage in development tasks involving database systems, including schema modifications, stored procedures, views, and functions.
  • Design application features and enhancements that adhere to security best practices.
  • Provide insights on functionality requests regarding feasibility and complexity.
  • Review projects to ensure coding accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Participate actively in code and design reviews.
  • Engage in after-hours support as needed.
  • Promote and implement best practices in DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
  • Mentor junior developers to foster their growth.
  • Enhance and maintain continuous integration practices, including zero-downtime deployments and feature-flag-driven development.

  • Deliver on commitments related to the technical and functional product roadmap.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on experience in software development with relevant technologies.
  • A deep passion for coding, with a strong desire to innovate and improve.
  • Extensive experience in Java, Java frameworks (such as Spring Boot), and design patterns.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with automation tools like Ansible.
  • Familiarity with Shell scripting and database management (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Experience with container technologies (Docker, Helm, Kubernetes) and cloud services (AWS).
  • Knowledge of cloud application development is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated understanding of software tools and development processes.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and evaluate various factors.
  • Awareness of business implications on product development.
  • Capacity to adhere to team standards while taking initiative to evolve processes.
  • Adaptability to changing work conditions and collaboration across teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
