Key Role in Conceptual Design to Documentation

A Technical Designer I plays a crucial role in the translation of conceptual designs into detailed documentation. The position requires close collaboration with architects and other interior design professionals to ensure accuracy, compliance with building codes, and the successful execution of designs.

This position participates in every part of the design and construction process and requires a strong understanding of architectural principles, construction techniques, and the ability to use various design software tools to convey design intent.

Key Responsibilities:

• Documentation and Field Visits: Assist in the visiting, coordination, and documentation of existing conditions of projects.
• Field Notes Translation: Documenting and translating field notes and surveys into workable drawing files for the project team.
• Design Concept Development: Collaborate openly with architects and other design team members to develop and refine design concepts into practical and buildable solutions.
• Compliance and Regulations: Ensure compliance with industry standards, building codes, and regulations in all design documentation and design phases.
• Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Assist in solving technical challenges and provide solutions to design issues that may arise during the project lifecycle.

Technical Documentation:

• Detailed Drawings and Specifications: Translate conceptual designs into detailed drawings and specifications.
• Architectural Detailing: Demonstrate proficiency in architectural detailing, construction techniques & documentation.
• Independent Assignments: Independently performs a variety of assignments requiring skills in all aspects of architectural designs for projects of small to moderate size and complexity.
• Design Analysis and Layouts: Assist in performing analyses of design, planning, and occupancy studies, and limited design layouts.
• Project Specifications: Prepare project specifications with assistance from interior designers, compiling and analyzing relevant technical data for the team.
• Permit Documentation: Assist in the preparation of permit documentation and the permit procurement process.
• Construction Documents: Create accurate and detailed construction documents using industry standard software (Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, etc.).
• Design Coordination: Develop comprehensive and coordinated sets of design and construction drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
• Drawings Review and Quality Control: Produce drawings for review and mark ups for quality control.

Client Interaction:

• Client Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues and senior architects in client meetings to understand their needs and present design solutions.
• Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service and address client interactions with professionalism and creativity.

Vendor & Consultant Coordination:

• Sourcing and Procurement: Assist in the coordination with suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors to source and procure construction materials, fixtures, and other finishes.
• Design Integration: Collaborate with project architects, engineering consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders to address technical aspects of the project and integrate various design disciplines into cohesive sets of documents.
• Coordination Meetings: Participate in coordination meetings to address technical issues and ensure project continuity.

Project Support:

• Site Visits and Installations: Support the project team in various tasks, including site visits, installations, and project closeouts.
• Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with fellow team members, architects, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to design.
• Project Timelines and Budgets: Collaborate with other team members to ensure projects are completed within established timelines and budgets.
• Specifications and Material Selections: Assist in the preparation of specifications and material selections.
• Communication: Communicate effectively with internal team members, consultants, and clients.
• Design and Coordination Meetings: Participate in design and coordination meetings, providing technical insights and solutions.
• Troubleshooting: Assist in resolving technical challenges during the construction phase.
• Technical Details: Effectively communicate technical details and requirements to both internal and external team members.
• Client Presentations: Assist in client presentations, explaining technical aspects of the design when necessary.

Quality Assurance & Control:

• Preliminary Reviews: Conduct preliminary reviews of construction documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to firm standards & coordination checklists.
• Error Identification and Rectification: Participate in quality control processes to identify and rectify any errors or discrepancies in the documentation.

Professional Development:

• Industry Knowledge: Stay up to date on industry trends, materials, and technologies to enhance design knowledge, skills and professional development.
• Local Building Codes and Regulations: Stay informed and up to date with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure that designs comply with all relevant guidelines.
• Training and Workshops: Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and training programs as required.

Education: Bachelor's or master's Degree from an Accredited school program required.

Experience: 0-4 years of full-time architecture and design experience preferred.
