Linux Kernel Engineer Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Linux kernel engineer to lead our team's efforts in architecture, implementation, and delivery of the Ubuntu Linux kernel.

  • Develop solutions for key Silicon and Cloud partners to meet their needs.
  • Mitigate vulnerabilities and exposures in the Ubuntu Linux kernel and drive active hardening.
  • Enhance performance and correctness to make Ubuntu Linux the most reliable and highest performing Linux kernel available.
  • Streamline third-party component packaging and distribution for optimal user experience.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills in operating system kernels and distributions, as well as leadership abilities.

About the Role

  • This is an opportunity to lead a team of engineers in delivering a critical component of the Ubuntu Linux distribution.
  • You will work closely with management to track and coordinate initiatives to delivery.
  • Collaborate daily with senior technical leadership on ensuring Ubuntu stays at the pinnacle of Linux distributions.

Requirements

  • A self-motivated individual able to thrive in a remote work environment.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated expertise working in a *nix-based operating system kernel and distribution.
  • Prior experience developing with software packaging formats, with direct Ubuntu/Debian/Snap experience being highly regarded.
  • Ability to travel internationally at least twice a year for company events.

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Background in RTOS and real-time performance analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with kernel patching and debugging.
  • Grasp of device drivers, BSP's, and other low-level system engineering.
  • Prior experience with Rust, ideally as it pertains to the Linux kernel.
