About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Administrator to join our team at Trustly. As a key member of our Software Architecture group, you will be responsible for designing, testing, planning, implementing, protecting, operating, managing, and maintaining our enterprise databases.

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability, scalability, and performance of our databases. You will work closely with software architects, engineers, DevOps, and SREs to ensure that both the databases and applications are robust, efficient, and aligned with the overall architecture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks, tune database settings for optimal performance, and tackle complex database challenges.
  • Implement advanced backup and recovery strategies, formulate comprehensive disaster recovery plans, and ensure robust security measures.
  • Implement database changes to improve performance, develop sharding and indexing policies, and run performance tests to validate recommendations.
  • Enhance team effectiveness through strategic collaboration with software architects, system administrators, engineers, and data analysts.
  • Contribute significantly to database strategy, innovate in areas of database architecture and security, and set standards for data protection and performance optimization.
  • Determine, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistency and best practices across the organization.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in database design, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance, particularly in high availability environments.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration and performance tuning.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and Business Intelligence concepts.
  • Strong command-line skills in Unix environments, essential for administering PostgreSQL databases, including familiarity with shell scripting for automation of routine tasks.
  • Excellent analytical skills, capable of monitoring database performance and evaluating complex information from various sources.
  • Great communication skills, able to effectively communicate with managers, developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Keen attention to detail to understand complex systems and recognize how minor errors can lead to major problems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to quickly and effectively resolve issues as they arise.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development, fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS Solutions, including Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora, and Docker.
  • Knowledge of using Amazon Redshift for data warehousing solutions, including ETL processes, performance tuning, and managing large datasets.
  • Experience with Amazon Database Migration Service (DMS) for migrating databases to AWS with minimal downtime.
  • Fluency in English is a plus.
