Conservation Leadership

The Conservation Director will oversee the planning, organization, and coordination of preventive conservation and restoration activities for artworks in our collection or under our custody.

Main Responsibilities
  • Preventive Conservation:
    • Develop and implement preventive conservation parameters;
    • Coordinate monitoring of environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, and lighting;
    • Collaborate with other teams to assess and manage risks and develop emergency response plans;
    • Guide staff to maintain optimal storage and exhibition conditions, handling, packaging, and display;
    • Provide technical expertise to resolve conservation issues in galleries.
  • Conservation and Restoration:
    • Lead diagnostics and surveys of the collection, defining conservation priorities;
    • Coordinate condition assessments of artworks (for acquisitions, loans, exhibitions, etc.);
    • Define necessary scientific methods and analyses and interpret results effectively;
    • Perform structural and aesthetic conservation and restoration interventions on artworks;
    • Prepare comprehensive reports and treatment proposals.
  • Partnerships and Collaborations:
    • Establish strategic partnerships with institutions and professionals;
    • Recommend suitable experts for specific artworks;
    • Draft and manage collaborative projects;
    • Administer and monitor ongoing treatments, guiding the most effective approach;
    • Ensure high-quality restorations of our collection's artworks.
  • Artwork Transport:
    • Accompany artworks during transport;
    • Support couriers from other institutions.
  • Team Development:
    • Define professional roles and responsibilities within the team;
    • Promote continuous development of employees' skills and knowledge.
